I have the constant dilemma of what kind of distro to use: A rolling release for all the best features, or a stable distro I can install and forget about. It depends on the use case, I guess, and mine seem to lean rolling release. But damn if stables aren’t sexy, too. #linux

@trafotin I don’t agree on the security patches part — Most stable distros have security teams and can run their own patching for their versions of software, especially if they’re big. Progress, though, yes. Like being able to run Intel Arc cards, or having ffmpeg encode in AMF. Or the new patches to Vulkan. Compelling reasons to run a rolling release distro. Especially as a content creator and gamer.

After eight months, I still keep reformatting my new computer because I can't decide which #Linux distros I want where on my partitions.

And we're talking like, reformatting it weekly.

I do not know why, but no matter what, I cannot get flatpak to install in a script. Dependencies just plain fail in ways that don't fail if you do it manually. \o/

@omnipotens Well, some work, others don't. Specifically the openh264 flatpak fails every time.

OK, so I got a question, and please be kind on this: on #Mastodon, let's say I want to find all the best posts about Dungeons and Dragons. I'm looking for some creators to follow all over the Fediverse. What's the best way to do that?I had believed it was to search for the hashtag, but I'm not finding that to be the case. And if that's not an option on Mastodon, I understand and I'll just keep working on it. But I'm trying to learn here, and Googling has come up a little short lately.

@sowth I browse Lemmy quite a bit and am subscribed to that community. But feeds here seem to work really well. And mostly I'm looking for miniature painting, which doesn't seem to get many hits.

Looks like #redhat trying to get out of its GPL obligations and kill spin-off distros. Pretty sad. I'll be watching this closely. Gogo #rockyLinux and #almaLinux!

Woah OK. That stunk. Are we good now? Pretty happy here but if things aren't good we can move.

Giving KDE a shot for the first time in a while. Digging where it's gone. Feels nice.
