Defederating from an entire instance and encouraging others to do so before giving moderators a chance to respond is a pretty wild choice. There are certainly discussions to be had about the sustainability of moderation for instances with many thousands of users, but to post a call-out with a fediblock hashtag without contacting moderators or giving any time for a report to be addressed is fully ridiculous. The person in question's account was suspended promptly. We're all free to associate with whom we like here, but it's pretty fucked to rile people up about defederating when mods quickly addressed issue (especially since they weren't even directly contacted). Lol damn

Not trying to be cryptic; it's impossible to keep up with all the fediverse shenanigans. I am referring to this particular nonsense:https://ubiqueros.com/notes/98t4vk2u1qEngaging like this is pretty indefensible. Mods here work extremely hard and are very responsive. If you don't allow them time to take action (which they promptly did), then what is it you think moderation and a code of conduct are for?I can absolutely understand people being fed up with white nonsense on the fediverse and having little patience for unresponsive moderators, but this is absolutely not that. This is clearly unprincipledAs the fediverse grows, bad actors weaponizing federation is gonna be a huge headache. The mod team here is extremely intentional and the folks here are resolute about our values; we have no tolerance for racism or bigotry on Kolektiva and we uplift that; if you defederate from us that is a loss for you and your users.

On this topic, fully agree with this analysis from @rechelon https://mastodon.social/@rechelon/109549646502812262Moderators should be responsible for outlining a code of conduct and ensuring their users are aligned with it. They shouldn't have the authority to decide what parts of the fediverse their users can see. It's a conflation of responsibilities and it clearly becomes a mess of group think and fediblock posts.I fully appreciate Kolektiva's position that engaging with that isn't some form of activism for us. I want my feed filled with organizing work and relevant news and analysis and yes the occasional adorable puppy photo, not an unending stream of interpersonal, groupthink-driven demands to block kolektiva or mastodon[dot]social cause they're too big or X user just made an account there (a real shock with open registrations).Last rantish point here... folks need a place to land here (the fediverse is fucking confusing for folks new to decentralized social media (and even to some of us who've used it for a while)) and I very much want some sweet anarchist comrade in Greece who doesn't happen to have an invite token to be able to join this space. Of course we have to consider scaling and moderation issues with 10s of thousands of users, but damn you have to give moderators a chance to respond. Putting Kolektiva on blast with a fediblock tag before so much as filing a report or tagging mods is bullshit move; and you lost any credibility in my book (don't give a shit how long you've been around)

Antifascist action is effective because it presents real consequences for fascists. When a nazi gets doxxed, gets fired, get flooded with flyers in their neighborhood, etc... when their lives are fundamentally changed for the worse, it disrupts their ability to organize. It is demoralizing. We make no apologies and do not function within a framework controlled by the state or its apologists. We should be imposing similar consequences for cops. On our own terms. As abolitionists. You think they give a fuck about a march in isolation? Or some appeal to city council? After 2020, their funding in most locales has only increased. The lack of any substantive structural changes should inspire introspection about our strategy and tactics. We need to make it unbearable to be a cop. The individual stripped of riot gear and their police line is weak. Attacking individual links makes the chain fall apart.

I have seen cops get soooo bothered when they're at starbucks or some shit and they receive a simple "fuck you, quit your job".The stigma and vociferous rejection of cops in our society has done more to impact staffing than any city council vote ever has. "Defund the police" is a line I no longer have any interest in. It's like begging the state to defund itself. Will never happen (especially on any significant scale).Cops need to hate their jobs; to do that we need to bring the fight to isolated individuals when they are not in uniform.

I wish Mastodon had a mechanism to report directly to remote server. I really don't wanna bother Kolektiva mods about some dipshit that needs to be axed from another instance. Maybe some random client supports this?

Lol the Proud Boy snitches who play revisionist history to try to cover their asses are hilarious. Here's Jeremy Bertino who claimed in his testimony today that he believed Proud Boys were just protecting people from antifascists and didn't believe the "propaganda" about them.In this photo he is sporting an "RWDS" patch (which very unambiguously stands for "Right Wing Death Squad" - a celebration of authoritarian violence in line with their Pinochet t-shirts of "commies" being thrown out of helicopters). Live tweet coverage of trial from Roger Parloff available here: https://twitter.com/rparloff/status/1628066849853145095Even within their own bigoted, far-right exterminationist framework these people have no fundamental principles, integrity, or coherent ideological consistency. The Proud Boys are cowards who will readily bail and snitch on their own when shit hits the fan. Such is the nature of a male chauvinist fascist street gang...

This is an interesting cultural fissure I was not that aware of. I don't think Bertino is making this up; this sounds like a very plausible division.Only worth mentioning in terms of strategic efforts to drive wedges.

This is the rhetoric of genocide:[Israel’s defence minister has called Palestinians in Gaza “human animals”as he announced a full siege on the coastal enclave.“I have ordered a complete siege on the Gaza Strip. There will be no electricity, no food, no fuel, everything is closed,” Yoav Gallant said.“We are fighting human animals and we act accordingly.”]And when it is followed by bombing a refugee camp and cutting off key infrastructure to an open air prison, it is clear that the Israeli government's goal is the extermination of the Palestinian people.

And to anyone who doesn't recognize this as a war crime as well, you have lost the fucking plot and I fear what you would do in a similar position...You don't have to cape for Hamas' atrocities to fiercely advocate for the rights and liberation of Palestinians.Source: aljazeera

Israel is now using white phosphorous on Palestinians. No words; so fucking livid.https://www.hrw.org/news/2023/10/12/israel-white-phosphorus-used-gaza-lebanon[White phosphorus ignites when exposed to atmospheric oxygen and continues to burn until it is deprived of oxygen or exhausted. Its chemical reaction can create intense heat (about 815°C/1,500°F), light, and smoke.[Upon contact, white phosphorus can burn people, thermally and chemically, down to the bone as it is highly soluble in fat and therefore in human flesh. White phosphorus fragments can exacerbate wounds even after treatment and can enter the bloodstream and cause multiple organ failure. Already dressed wounds can reignite when dressings are removed and the wounds are re-exposed to oxygen. Even relatively minor burns are often fatal. For survivors, extensive scarring tightens muscle tissue and creates physical disabilities. The trauma of the attack, the painful treatment that follows, and appearance-changing scars lead to psychological harm and social exclusion.]

Reading The Hundred Years' War on Palestine by Rashid Khalidi and in the introduction he cites a letter written by Theodor Herzl (considered the founder of the modern Zionist movement) to one of Khalidi's ancestors:[Glossing over the fact that Zionism was ultimately meant to lead to Jewish domination of Palestine, Herzl employed a justification that has been a touchstone for colonialists at all times and in all places and that would become a staple argument of the Zionist movement: Jewish immigration would benefit the indigenous people of Palestine... "In allowing immigration to a number of Jews bringing their intelligence, their financial acumen and their means of enterprise to the country, no one can doubt that the well-being of the entire country would be the happy result."]Beyond colonialism, this reasoning was also applied as a rationalization for chattel slavery. John C. Calhoun (the 7th US vice president) said: "Never before has the black race of Central Africa, from the dawn of history to the present day, attained a condition so civilized and so improved, not only physically, but morally and intellectually."

My meaning here is in no way to speak negatively of immigration (I am a fierce advocate for the rights of migrants and asylum seekers); and of course Jews fleeing Russian pogroms or immigrating due to the horrors of the holocaust is infinitely understandable. But when Herzl speaks of "immigration" in this 1899 letter, he of course means the deliberate project of displacing Palestinians to establish a Jewish state. I assume this distinction is obvious but it is well worth stating directly. It is precisely this distinction that renders a two-state "solution" untenable according to Khalidi. The ethnic cleansing and domination cannot be undone. Israel is not a neighbor; it is an oppressor.Migration: moving to a new place and establishing a homeSettler colonialism: moving to a new place and taking someone else's home

Some people tend to say the quiet part out loud... [Significantly, many early apostles of Zionism had been proud to embrace the colonial nature of their project. The eminent Revisionist Zionist leader Ze’ev Jabotinsky, godfather of the political trend that has dominated Israel since 1977, upheld by Prime Ministers Menachem Begin, Yitzhak Shamir, Ariel Sharon, Ehud Olmert, and Benjamin Netanyahu, was especially clear about this. Jabotinsky wrote in 1923: “Every native population in the world resists colonists as long as it has the slightest hope of being able to rid itself of the danger of being colonised. That is what the Arabs in Palestine are doing, and what they will persist in doing as long as there remains a solitary spark of hope that they will be able to prevent the transformation of ‘Palestine’ into the "into the ‘Land of Israel.’”] From The Hundred Years' War on Palestine, Rashid Khalidi. It is so fucking disturbingly clear that the brutality is the point. Why is Israel blocking food and water and desperately needed medical supplies? Why it is bombing the shit out of neighborhoods and wiping out entire family lines? They are trying to snuff out that spark of hope.

Can we please ressurect him so we can each take turns beating him to death?

Regarding the mass murder and torture that Augusto Pinochet committed after Kissinger and Nixon helped overthrow the democratically-elected Allende socialist government in Chile, Kissinger said the following about Pinochet's horrific crimes:“I read the briefing paper for this meeting and it was nothing but Human Rights, The State Department is made up of people who have a vocation for the ministry. Because there are not enough churches for them, they went into the Department of State.”Pure sociopath
