@icedquinn I respect it, Dune's Shields are pretty much one of the only sci-fi shields that make sense - stop dangerous (fast-moving) things, but still allow you to grab things and breathe air.The lasers thing is a bit of a stretch though lol

@icedquinn what did you use previously, ceramic? I had a similar experience switching from ceramic to gas (moving apartaments), suddenly things heat up hella fast.

@Hyolobrika absolutely. People will not only instantly believe defamatory lies that confirm their current opinion, suspicion or general worldview, but will also resist any attempts to refute them. A threat of severe consequences and a requirement for official retractions are the only way to keep them at a sane level.

@Hyolobrika and critical thinking 1) is rare and pretty much impossible to "teach" most of society in current cultures and 2) doesn't even work that well for people trained in it, our monkey brains are too susceptible to biases.

@VD15 the way I think the investors see it, the only way to actually profit off AI with the insane investments being put into it is to corner the market, leaving people no choice but to use one product or a couple of equally expensive alternatives. Which makes it feasible for companies to spend that much money on hardware.Foreign and/or open serious competition threatens that business model.

@Mr_NutterButter @matrix that's 'cause Europe isn't the US and a couple of biggest fuckwits (Germany like always, UK which isn't even in the EU, probably France and Sweden like usual) don't represent the whole continent. That's like saying the US has dumb gun and theft laws because California has them.Here in Poland I can say whatever the fuck I want except for libel (for a good reason and also illegal in the US) and promoting totalitarianism (based, might also be illegal in the US?). And for the former the usual punishment is a public apology, not a bajilion dollar lawsuit, and the latter is not even strictly enforced (shame, commies should get regularly beaten by the police to simulate their desired state without ruining everything for everyone else). Now, this might get outdated if chat control is passed. We've repelled similar attempts in the past and will hopefully repel this one too. If we don't succeed, it will retroactively make you right.

@BrodieOnLinux actually if they manage to configure it to help students along with problems and explain things they didn't understand instead of just giving the answer, it would be an invaluable teaching tool. Essentially a personal tutor. The realist in me knows how government programs related to education usually end though.
