@ErikUden New marketing tactic - send a political email to someone they clearly know nothing about.

@futurebird I'm pretty sure I sent you this before, but in case I didn't:https://direct.mit.edu/books/monograph/2313/Ant-Colony-Optimization#AntColonyOptimization It's a real thing ... pheromones, trails, etc.

@futurebird As far as I know the people working in this area - meta-heuristics for complex optimization - mostly use methods derived with computer science / discrete math, rather than by modeling living organisms or colonies of them. They have test sets and competitions just like the AI folks do.https://cs.gmu.edu/~sean/book/metaheuristics/

@futurebird How many neurons does a worker ant's nervous system have?

@futurebird So 350K neurons times the number of ants in the foraging group - that's in the millions of neurons, I think. That does seem more efficient than a meta-heuristic.

@futurebird But not all are foraging at any one time, which is where the algorithms originally came from.

@stux Yeah - Doug Ford chose to stick it to three states with Democratic governors and senators!

@futurebird Pretty much everyone needs advice about ants. Like it's even in the Bible!"Go to the ant, thou sluggard, consider her ways, and be wise."

@futurebird I believe I'm descended from Eastern European forest people, although I've spent about half my life in the coniferous Pacific Northwest. I never heard of making bread from pine bark.

@Nonilex As long as Trump can find 34 Senators that want the same deal, nothing is going to be done about this.

@ErickaSimone It gets worse - they are trying to write this ICE mission into law in the so-called "Big Beautiful Bill." They might negotiate on the budget numbers, but I doubt that they will back down on ICE. We have to try to change some Republican minds in Congress.

@reverseics I don't think little-endian was even a thing until Intel started shipping little-endian microprocessors by the billions.

@overeducatedredneck Yeah, bit-serial makes sense little-endian. Rumor has it that Turing wrote binary numbers with the least significant bit on the left because that's how they showed up on an oscilloscope trace on serial computers.

@futurebird Of course wealthy people know climate change is real! It's visible in the rates people pay for insurance against floods and wildfires, assuming you can even get that insurance.
