Test driving #Devuan install as desktop (the install is not for non geeks or linux starters it turns out). I thought I found a bug by coincidence. I was busy with several other things as well and forgot to fill in a username, and continued the install ... 😑 But having a bright moment, trying devuan as username and - behold - the desktop appeared ! 🤩

@fitheach My impression - from reading some Devuan website parts - is that Devuan only changed packages that are systemd dependent. The rest is simply the unchanged debian package. So I would expect it to be fine for you. But I am a little confused what releases compare. I had Devuan Ascii installed on a server, then upgraded to Beowulf and had some apt cron package running, and I noticed very few changes. Does Beowulf "equal" Debian Stretch and not Buster ? (could have a look myself of course)

@fitheach That is great to hear (running fine on 10 servers) ! I just had a look. Devuan has both /etc/devuan_version and /etc/debian_version so that made thing clear already. I'm curious to try an upgrade to Beowulf on my test install. - Also I really liked seeing the install options to have root and/or /home encryption. #devuan

@cosullivan I could see if I can get results for different countries with my VPN when I find spare time and energy. Regarding Tor, if you (Apart from using Tor browser bundle) run tor daemon, and configure a browser to use that, you can configure tor daemon to use exit nodes per country you prefer.

@cosullivan iirc it is all about in torrc file one line with e.g. ExitNodes = {uk}I noticed Japan (1) Sweden and Italy had numbers. For some countries I got timeouts. I've tried to cover most of Europe including Malta and Vatican City. I've skipped Germany for now because of repeated Captcha.

zzZZzz - Tomorrow is a new day. Need to sleep soon. Curious how the numbers for the virus will be in tomorrow's mainstream newspaper headlines.

@freemo @Tayo @Gina Not all <fill in country> people are the same likely :) e.g. Quite some people in Rotterdam find people from Amsterdam arrogant. But ... Amsterdam has quite a variety of people, from all kind of backgrounds ! In Rotterdam people are usually straight to the point, direct and honest. That can be confronting if you're not used to it. I find it nice. Did you try the Flemish part of Belgium ? I have a weak spot for that - https://invidio.us/watch?v=vFo428N7xec

@nitox @vordenken I've used NoScript in the past but am glad to have moved away from it. Yesterday with Tor browser (Which has NoScript by default for some reason) I got repeated popups served by NoScript. I felt a bit anxious - thrown back into the 90-ish :/

https://blog.torproject.org/new-release-tor-browser-906 🤔 Note: We are aware of a bug that allows javascript execution on the Safest security level (in some situations). We are working on a fix for this. If you require that javascript is blocked ....

In mainstream news, government message was more or less this : "Schools need to stay open because if the children are at home then the parents also need to be at home, and the parents are needed at work, for the economy." 😑
