This is important. The "sociopathic exception" that some people offer that they won't wear a mask because it only helps other people is wrong! Wearing a mask benefits the wearer as well. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DANEqOPcDwc#covid-19

@mwlucas Apple is engaged in a massive research project into how much mindless bullshit you can subject people to before they rebel. So far, it looks like a lot.

Hi All,It's time again to make a call for shows. I would be great if otherscould contribute some shows rather than relying on the "old regulars" tofill in the gaps.Contribution is easy.Open the recorder app on your smart phone and talk. Popular topics are- who you are and how you got into tech- what cool thing you have learned recentlyGot to http://hackerpublicradio.org/calendar.php and upload the show.I'd appreciate it if you could spread this message far and wide !

@klaatu @murph @cobra2 @thelovebug @thaj @claudiom I know Klaatu wouldn't just do it because my stuff is all CC-BY-SA, and he still asked me first if he could use it. And my reply was that he didn't really need to ask since I had chosen my license quite deliberately.

@mastsec Not any longer. That pop-up made it obvious so I downloaded Malwarebytes and got rid of it.

@klaatu Actually, there was a handle that moved the platen on the old ones. It was on the upper left, and you would hit it with your hand to move the platen back to the beginning of the line. And the lever also rolled the platen by one more line, so that you were on a fresh new line. I remember how awesome IBM Selectrics were when they came in. That is how I typed my college papers in the 1970s.

@murph @klaatu And those terms also made sense with teletype terminals. That is how I did my Computer work in college. My University got access to the Harvard mainframe via a teletype terminal, and everything was typed on paper.

@Ricardus I am fortunate to live in Michigan, where his wife's family lives, so he played here regularly. I saw him with Herbie Hancock a few years back, and in 2019 saw him with his band.

@murph I originally wrote it about MS-DOS some years bnack, and Klaatu thought it could be adapted for OpenSource.com. I'm just glad it is still useful for someone. So much of my stuff has gotten dated.

Found online:"Alpha Male", the early version of a male, before testing and bug fixes. Unstable and not suitable for the public.

@strypey As a person of Irish extraction I have always liked Cahill's take, but in honesty I have to give the Byzantines and the Arabs some credit as well. They preserved more than the Irish did, and the key fact in the Renaissance was that the fall of Constantinople sent scholars from there to Italy along with their books.

@craigmaloney I wonder how many members they lose over this? I am still an EFF member, and send donations to the Software Freedom Conservancy, as well as contributing to specific projects.

@murph @craigmaloney There comes a time when choices need to be made. The FSF has made a choice, and I have made a choice in response.
