@FroehlichMarcel I respect this, but after Musks’s call for violence against Dr. Fauci -someone whom I deeply respect and publicly support-I could no longer justify being on the platform so I deleted my account.I haven’t missed it one iota. Given that the #fediverse neither sells advertising nor uses acronyms, the environment here is non commercial and free of rage.

@FroehlichMarcel Thanks for clarifying-I agree. I would note that the regulatory environment is much stronger in the EU than in the US; in the US, it is much more driven by corporate actors and legislators 1) are averse to regulating generally and 2) do not understand the issues presented by technology-so we can’t wait for a policy solution.

@john It was intense - even from my experience! Though I wonder about those still on the bird site: how active are they and how likely are they to be aware of the outage; how many are authentic accounts instead of bots; and how disposed are they to go to Mastodon which does not have an algorithm, and has more user-based rules for content moderation (in other words, can’t use the n-word without consequences, etc.)?

@john That’s understandable-though I have experienced some of the “bad stuff” (such as calls for violence against people whom I have and do publicly support) so I could neither in good conscience nor for my own safety remain on the platform…

@john That’s true - to be honest, the switching cost is even lower than I thought it was. Since most people are on some other platform (Insta, LinkedIn, etc.. it’s really not that hard to find or be found.) It would have been much better for my mental health to have gotten off Twitter earlier…

It’s a mass shooting mad lib!The shooter was a white male age (number between 15 and 50) who used a/n (type of military rifle). He had grievances against (ethnic group and/or gender) and had written numerous posts on (right wing social media site). @CliffWade I locked down my Twitter shortly after Musk bought it and it, and deleted it when he threatened violence against Dr. Fauci. I don’t miss Twitter one bit. My stress level is much lower and I can share my thoughts, ideas, and art without fear of attracting hate.
