Happy to find these crane-fly orchids in one of the garden beds! These guys only put up a single leaf per year, which dies back in spring, and then a stalk of delicate flowers in the summer.#SaturdaySighting #NativePlants #CraneFlyOrchid

I think crossvines might be my favorite vine in the yard. The bright flowers are high in the canopy and attract bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds. The vine itself is relatively lightweight (compared to the native grapes and poison ivy) and doesn’t overwhelm my trees. Happy Friday everyone!#Florespondence #FlowerFriday #FlowerReport #NativePlants #Crossvine

Spending hours in the blistering, humid heat pulling invasive Japanese stilt grass is a miserable experience. So I’m posting a picture a native plant I recently found to help keep me motivated, the lovely jewelweed. #NativePlants #InvasivePlants #Jewelweed

September is my favorite time in the marsh, partly because I get to watch red-winged blackbirds (and sometimes the elusive sora) eat the wild rice. #RedWingedBlackbird #Wetlands #BirdsOfMastodon #BirdPhotography #FotoMontag
