       You can't have a population in which everyone is in the black, any more than you can have a world in which all nations produce more than they consume. If "not everyone makes it" is a feature rather than a bug, then you are a social darwinist. You'd probably take that as a compliment, although it certainly isn't intended as such.

       Liberal values such as individualism and due process are valuable contributions to the history of ideas and important improvements over feudalism. That being asid, classical liberalism and neoliberalism are both bougeois supremacism. The liberal tradition was at its best in the middle of its story arc, the so-called "high liberalism" of the American presidents known by their initials, FDR, JFK, and (on domestic policy, anyway) LBJ.

       If Social Security and Medicare are the only things the Democrats are willing to go to the mat for, there is still a huge assertiveness asymmetry. I don't know whether it's* because they fear donors more than they do voters, or* because they actually believe neoclassical economics to be an accurate model of how the world works and can work, or* because their real function is as some kind of controlled opposition, or* some other explanation.One thing one never ever gets from a candidate is candor.

       Perhaps I'm conflating pro-IP with anti-piracy. There are a lot of nuanced views in that conceptual neighborhood. I've tried on some of them for size (having been until recently a fanatical copyleftist), but haven't yet found anything that feels to me like a good answer.

       I haven't entirely lost my techno optimism. The seeds of enshittification are planted by grafting monetization onto a technology. I have become convinced over the years that this is a law of economics and that there is no possibility of an exception to this rule. The only unenshittified technology is an unmonetized technology.

       I'm tactically a social democrat, but my dream for humanity is cooperation overtaking competition quite decisively. Almost certain not to happen during my lifetime, but I simply have to believe it can eventually happen, as that belief keeps me going.
