@humanetech"Fully sustaining ones income with #foss project" is nothing other than turning that project into commercial one, and this is never a good thing.

@namarkProgrammers are not paid for some abstract R&D, they are paid for working on a commercial product, and only while it's profitable. And commercial products have inherent evil properties some of which you've listed. There's no third way - any step towards profit it a step away from making high quality product which helps people.@humanetech

Just realized how software versions are curious from mathematical point of view - for instance, there's infinite number of non-negative elements which are less than zero (like 0beta1).

@Matter That's not correct - prereleases compare less than corresponding release, e.g. 1.0beta1 < 1.0 < 1.1. The same applies to release 0 although it's not widely used in real world.

So I'm like a security guy now, submitting CVE metadata fixes to NIST NVD for problems discovered by #repology (thanks to NVD people for being responsive btw). Also I'm now monitoring new CVEs stream to find missing CPE bindings and make sure all new CVEs are reported by Repology as vulnerable package versions. Recent #NXNSATTACK CVEs are, for instance. This is cool. I feel that the project is uniting more parts of #foss ecosystem.

@syntaxThat's a generous offer, thank you! My https://repology.org (a web service which monitors a lot of (not only) linux package repositories) project could really use your help. There are a dozen single paragraph description texts and a few larger doc pages. Repository with HTML templates: https://github.com/repology/repology-webapp/tree/master/repologyapp/templates

#google was amazingly effective in making me switch to #duckduckgo with their craptcha, yet they fail miserably in preventing my bot from scanning their SERP 24/7 for months. In case you're interested the key to success was using elinks user agent (seem to prevent them from using some ways of clientside bot detection) and do no more than one request per minute. Not much, but quite enough for monitoring you site positions in search results.

@mgrondinscp is more like for physical files, but you can `dump | ssh host 'cat >/where/to'`.This should be ok if your network is reliable enough (cause you'll have to start from scratch if it dies), otherwise it would be more convenient to dump into local file and then rsync it to remote machine.

So, #python2 apps are going to be removed from #FreeBSD soon, so I've jumped to save some of them. One is this little Trip on the Funny Boat arcade gameNow I feel bad for not letting the unmaintained garbage rot away peacefully and taking the responsibility to take care of it.No longer feel like saving other python2 stuff, including git-bzr-ng, diameter game, kiki the nanobot, 2000 lightyears, outerspace, kudu and uniconvertor and don't think I'll miss any of them much

Some people recommend migration from #GitHub to #GitLab or even more marginal "censor-free" code hosting facilities like #codeberg. Now I wonder if any of these will ever fight for their projects like GitHub does for #youtube-dl, or just remove it as soon as they are ordered to.

@fikranDon't even think about this. CentOS is about stability, e.g. install once and forget for 10 years. #FreeBSD doesn't have that, even closely. Undermaintained quarterly branch which lives for 3 months? All Qt packages broken for 11.x? Firefox package disappearing from the repository for weeks? DRM package broken for 12.2? That's the stability FreeBSD currently provides.

@Matter1. Centralize? Very much yes, to have all mine, and all other's issues and PRs for projects I'm interested in one place. 2. Proprietary? Does not matter as long as you don't host it yourself, and you don't because of 1. 3. Microsoft? Not a tiny bit worse than any other hosting facility.Until there is a working decentralized code forge, GH is the only choice.@hejowhat @binyamin

We MUST identify individuals among us who have signed #RMS open letter. We also must identify people who have signed RMS support letter. We need to thank people from both groups as people who _deeply care for Free Software movement_.

@hehemrin small on the go changes to my (python, C++) projects, as it allows to set up full-fledged development environment with vim (IMO it's even more powerful on mobile) and git, with ability to freely run all development tools and q/a tools, tests and sometimes whole applications locally.

@boilingsteam if I still played non-FOSS games, that'd absolutely be torrents.
