I don’t understand people. I’ve been feeling rough due to suspected Covid, and now reached the loss of taste and smell stage. I quickly had to nip to the chemist to pick up an important prescription, and put a mask on in the car to avoid spreading the virus. Within 20 seconds a guy’s banging on the window saying “We’ve all been vaccinated. It doesn’t matter now.”I’ve been jabbed too, and the fact Covid still makes you feel as rough as a badger’s a*se is totally lost on him.What a weird world.

@science_quotes The problem is, we’re indoctrinated to believe certain aspects of technology are crucial, when they’re not.Can I live without social media? Yep. I’ve already done it for 55 years. Do I really need augmented reality via a virtual reality headset? Nope. A flower or bird can simply be appreciated for its beauty without knowing its species or Latin name. Are smartphones crucial? They’re handy, that’s all. Digital currency? It’s an option, but I can’t store it under my mattress.

@matt I definitely agree! Some of the prizes were a bit off the wall. A speedboat’s quite a nice thing to own, but not if you’re in a rented flat five storeys up in the centre of Doncaster.Saying that, I didn’t really mind the show and I’ve certainly seen a lot worse. I remember Ted Rogers hosting “321” and the obscure clues to the prizes. I think they were encoded with an enigma machine by a few of the guys at Bletchley Park.

@ricci AI “learns” and emulates what’s fed to it, producing a similar result at a higher speed. Without human creativity it will plateau and eventually stall. If art deco or nouveau didn’t exist, would a computer have created it? I seriously doubt it. A computer has no conscience, no soul, no spirit and no compassion. It doesn’t feel the emotion in a piece of literature or the see beauty in a painting. We simply tell it how we feel it should respond to the things it’s exposed to.
