"That means your body has a sort of immunity debt to catch up on. “If your immunity dates back to strains that were in circulation three or four years ago, you’re needing to pay back,” Dr. Ostrosky said."Je bouwt geen immuniteit tegen griep op. Daarom is er elk jaar een nieuwe griepprik, want elk jaar is de griep net weer anders.

"Covid has also made us far more attuned to when we are sick, experts said. It feels like a bigger deal now when someone shows up to work or school with a hacking cough. "Nee, de media proberen ons juist aan te praten dat het normaal is dat iedereen altijd ziek is.

"Paying closer attention to respiratory symptoms may also make it seem like we’re sick for longer, said Dr. Debra Langlois, a pediatrician"Gewoon negeren die hap. Als je geen aandacht schenkt aan die hoofdpijn, wordt die vanzelf minder.

"Adults can also have what doctors call a post-viral cough that lasts for three weeks or more after other symptoms go away. “My own husband has had a post-viral cough for weeks,” Dr. Langlois said."Heel normaal. We moeten gewoon wennen aan dat we altijd zullen blijven hoesten.

"applying other lessons from the pandemic, like staying home when you’re sick and wearing a mask on airplanes."Dat ik nog iets nuttigs mag lezen. Draag dat masker maar overal in binnenruimtes met andere mensen. Niet alleen in vliegtuigen. Het is ook nog een keer sociaal om anderen niet ziek te maken.

"For parents like me, with young children carrying every kind of germ imaginable, Dr. Langlois said there’s reason to hope we won’t keep getting sick so often: As children grow up, they’re a lot less likely to cough in your face and a lot more likely to wash their hands without a fight."Misschien toch maar eens wat gaan doen aan ventilatie in scholen en kinderopvang?

"Around the world, smart talented young men and women are losing their careers after Covid ravages their organs, their brains, their immune systems.""Four years into this pandemic, most people don't understand the stakes. Corporations have colluded with our governments to coordinate a massive public misinformation campaign. It sounds like the stuff of conspiracy theories, until you look at history."#ABCovid https://www.okdoomer.io/its-that-bad/

Dit artikel is 10 maanden oud, maar nog steeds: Waarom komen mensen wel op voor het onrecht door oorlogen en voor het klimaat, maar willen ze niet het minimum doen om elkaar tegen Covid te beschermen?"of five prominent environmentalists who denounced lockdowns, vaccines and even masks as intolerable intrusions on our liberties, while proposing no meaningful measures to prevent transmission of the virus. Four of them became active spreaders of disinformation."https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2023/jan/26/covid-roulette-clean-air-ventilation-long-covid

@rchusid Outside you can take the risk not to mask and only keep a distance. Indoors aerosols will linger in the air.

@MySideIsHumanity @rchusid It is difficult to exclude all social interaction from one's life. So you can try and go for the options that are less risky.Masks are a problem for most people in the Netherlands, so if you want social interactions you need to take a bit of risk and meet people outdoors.

@freemo I might, but not know about it. I could have infected someone with an infection that I was carrying, but not aware I was having. An alternative is that by consuming certain products (e.g., burning gas to heat my home), wars have been fought over this natural resource, and I am partially responsible for people who died in that war.

Could it be that Covid sometimes makes people unaware of the seriousness of their medical condition (e.g., long Covid?).It does seem to be the case for already existing neurological conditions."Reduced awareness of neuropsychological disorders (i.e., anosognosia) is a striking symptom of post-COVID-19 condition"https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S2666354622001016

It has been argued that the other Coronaviruses that cause the common cold, are harmless. This bit does not sound harmless to me:"HCoV-OC43 may even contribute to the development of neurodegenerative cascades (Meessen-Pinard et al., 2017), with brain regions injured by HCoV viral attack (Netland et al., 2008) overlapping with those responsible for self-consciousness, as observed in SARS-CoV-2 (Parsons et al., 2021)."

@Radical_EgoCom @TomSullivan I think Trump will be taking away more freedoms than Harris (like your right of an abortion), but I agree that both will mostly protect the interests of the ruling class. I never understood why they need so much money campaigning, but it does not help to ensure that they will protect the interests of the majority of the population.

"Many governments simply declared the Covid-19 pandemic over, even as the WHO has not. The problem is, a pandemic is not a psychological state of mind. It's a biological and social phenomenon. Simply declaring it over and resuming normal patterns of social interaction does not stop the unpredictable virus from wreaking havoc." #CovidIsNotOver https://helendecruz.substack.com/p/explaining-the-anti-incumbency-backlash

@JosephMeyer @hannu_ikonen Work is the biggest source of stress for me. All my colleagues seem to think that all Covid does is make you sick for a week or so per year. Kind of crazy considering that these are people who regularly read scientific articles. They just ignore the ones on Covid.

@hannu_ikonen A 50% increase in the risk of dementia. On a population level, we are going to see at least 50% more cases of dementia. At least, because this 50% increase is after one infection. People get infected about once a year. But people will not link the dementia to Covid. Just bad luck.Note that the link also exists for flu, but one usually does not catch that every year.https://academic.oup.com/ageing/article-abstract/54/3/afaf046/8051277?login=false

@hannu_ikonen Exactly the reason to only seek care in case of an emergency. Most of the times you will come out worse than you went in.
