@avedik Would like to see some debunking of this because I've already seen it used as for example a wikipedia source to claim that the #mastodon user surge in april 2017 was caused by #pedophiles

@zleap @avedik You're right, Wikipedia is not really a source at all and one should always look at the references there instead of just accepting whatever is written but it does still matter what is there. Not everyone is going to check sources and Google for example displays parts of Wikipedia articles when you search for something that has one.Thankfully Wikipedia should be reasonably to correct too but it becomes easier if you can point to quality sources.

@wjmaggos @geoffreyfowler @washingtonpost decentralized or FOSS doesn't make it "impossible". It could limit the reach though.

@wjmaggos @geoffreyfowler @washingtonpost Yes, that is why I said it could limit the reach. Big instances can still have their recommenders and tune them as they wish... maybe some people will switch but I wouldn't hold my breath if you expect that to be some kind of a grand solution to this perceived issue.

@adamasnemesis Why would Ukraine having ended up as a soviet socialist republic make them any more aware that this is wrong and what is your proof for this being "a literal nazi policy"?Now, I agree that if said artists/athletes etc. are not expressing their support for the war (preferably express opposition to it) and the competition is not about nationality there is no reason to ostracize them but if those don't apply it is not "russophobia" and is being done.

@strypey The reality is that the vast majority of people who have abandoned it have abandoned it for Google Chrome.

@clive I think a big part of why Reddit became successful was that people felt like they got to "own" the communities that they started there. Probably a reality check for many.

@mike That is interesting, I was curious about whether it is possible to post to lemmy from mastodon... Seems like part of your message ended up becoming the title so I wonder if there is a way to format the message in a way that won't look out of place on lemmy

@boilingsteam they may not have considered what that sounds like and only thought of the extra time preparing the master would take... has remedy been that bad with buggy releases though? I don't remember that being the case

@stux the instance is holding up well under the pressure of the twitter migrants? I assume so since you're helping people invite more :)

@lamp thumb trackballs are the newer invention, I guess they seem slightly less alien if one is used to a mouse.
