@straphanger Politicians setting arbitrarily low prices. What could possibly go wrong? Buses and trains will not run at lower costs due to the ticket. The taxpayer will have to pick up the tab. Not a big deal? Well, there is no long-term commitment by the German government to provide the financing (in times when massive investment is in urgent need). Also, it will weaken the link between operators and customers (which has been rather weak already in Germany).

@publius @straphanger Across all modes it used to be roughly 45 percent. But the more relevant number is €25-30bn which is about the overall cost of running German mass transit. The new ticket is expected to eat up >10 percent of that number. What used to be predictable, inflation-proof fare revenues becomes short-term government funding (that in turn would be otherwise available to tackle the backlog in investments).

@ErikUden @beimwort "Etwas weniger" und "vielleicht eine Weile weniger" reicht ja nicht aus, sagt der CO2-Rechner vom Umweltbundesamt. Im ersten Schritt fehlt schon die realistische Vorstellung davon, was eigentlich notwendig wäre und was +3°C heißt. Wie soll es da passieren?
