I'm glad to have more space to play further down on the fret board, but the pressure needed to hold tension on the strings on my tenor is killing me#ukulele

@blacklight The title is just incredibly misleading though, right? They used techniques and tools of machine learning to best another machine learning algorithm. It's not the John Henry-type tale the headline makes it out to be.

@izaya shower timer? a self-imposed water conservation thing? I've only seen shower timers in a college dormitory shower.

so many times I hear someone on the general interest features in the news say, "it's more complicated than you thought," but usually I think, "really? I already think that's quite complicated..." usually it's something with a science or tech aspect that I've actually thought about it

@Pat seems like you're both privileging age unnecessarily, although @freemo is closer when he talks about "intellectual peaks". the real issue is cognitive function, which doesn't have a cutoff point on either side which is the same age for all people...more importantly though, if we're considering a group response, restricting individual liberties should be less favored compared to providing aid to individuals and making society generally better navigable for people with cognitive deficits. doing so also makes things better for everyone

@freemo actually, I take back part of that. @Pat is consistent with what I suggested

I wonder how much of orbital mechanics is driven by trends among the people who design orbits for specific missions and how much is just plugging in parameters to standard equations and computing the optimal orbits.I was thinking about this because it seems like I've heard more about near-rectilinear halo orbits in the past few years than I ever had before

@izaya you mean the tools are better specifically for NRHOs?

@izaya that makes some sense. do you actually work in the space industry? I seem to recall you were considering it some time ago, but didn't think you had sufficient background knowledge to be hireable (or something like that)

@izaya how are you streaming it? I'm not familiar with RimWorld: is it point and click? I've tried streaming a couple games running on Proton--one, a 3D MMORPG, and the other, a 3D adventure game--from my desktop to my laptop before with Steam's built-in streaming tools, but I ran into issues with input/peripherals and one weird camera issue that made both games I tried unplayable.

@izaya I guess you use a VPN to connect over the internet? I only ever tried remote play when I was on the same LAN...but I didn't ask too many questions about how it actually worked.

anyone else decide not to use a piece of open source software because, on the off-chance you might want to contribute a feature or fix, you don't want to write code in a certain programming language or environment? That's me with nodeJS projects. Maybe it's actually really nice to work with if you give it a chance, but it's always been that a pain for me. Also I'd have to be coding in JavaScript.
