I love how on NOSTR you can be a total introvert and "eavesdrop" on people's conversations and add little diddies in where you want to add to a conversation, but you're not talking over anyone, or interrupting, and you can talk to strangers in these eavesdropping events and somehow (hopefully) it's not too weird or off-putting the way it would be in a coffeeshop.

Well said 👏 porch lights and coffee pots 💝 I didn't know that internet necessarily... but I did go in some AOL chat rooms back in the early 2000s.

Lurking is exactly the word that could replace eavesdropping 😆 yes.

Absolutely! Unhinged crusaders 🤣 but yes... So many helpful tidbits. In my life I've collected many face to face friends who aren't really into the same things I'm into. They have good advice, but if you want to talk permaculture they're sort of just starry eyed... here there's a lot of folks who share interests that you'd be much less likely to meet in the real world. Also the "additional context", YES. So much broader of a perspective to be able to talk to "global neighbors" as @19f9afb8 also points out! You really can get out of your mirrored box.

I barely do. I'm 36. By the 8th grade most of my friends had cell phones. As a littler kid though, it was all about knocking on your friends door and seeing if they could come out to play- and that was the most special. In the 5th grade my "boyfriend" would call the house phone to talk to me on the phone after school. I did spend a lot of time watching TV as a kid- always on while I did homework. I think that cell phones replaced TV for a lot of us... and then of course there was AOL instant messenger... I can only imagine how it might be been to grow up with less technology to distract
