so it turns out that when VS Code asks you “do you trust the authors of this folder?” what they mean is that it’ll auto-execute .vscode/tasks.json if it exists, which can include shell commands. maybe that’s too many features. you can’t hold all these features. put a few features back

apparently malware gangs have exploited this by offering software engineers “interviews” with a “take-home assignment” so keep that in mind the next time VS Code annoys you with the “do you trust this folder” popup

my husband's new Windows 11 computer suddenly stopped outputting audio to the 3.5mm headphones. I clicked the audio troubleshooting button in Settings. It did not send me to the troubleshooter, but instead redirected me to install a help app. (yes, it wasn't even pre-installed.)The help app told me to click the audio troubleshooter button. Satya Nadella owes me three billion dollars in emotional damages.(we've fixed the audio problem by unplugging the USB microphone and rebooting. before you @ me self-righteously about someone else's operating system which was chosen in accordance with THEIR needs and not mine and certainly not yours, consider whether I might react with the fury of ten thousand suns)

@nuintari Odin is aware that he needs to treat small dogs and young children gently, but if you're not obviously a baby, it doesn't occur to him that he might be too heavy and strong for you. We have to be very careful with him around elderly people.

The “hot network questions” column on stack exchange is always an unhinged experience, especially if you interpret it as one stream of consciousness: How to build a coin-operated car wash without concrete? How to deal with a player who wants to run away? Is velocity defined in the instant a body hits the ground? What is the purpose of glutinous rice flour in this kimchi paste?
