I love wearing my lace mantilla in Church... I feel infinitely more feminine. I think I would get too many looks if I wore it outside of Church. Or people would think I'm muslim or something. lol

I wear kerchiefs tied under the hair when I’m around and about. I saw a hack for securing them with bobby pins then folding material over that. if it stays in place and I don’t continually have to adjust it then it doesn’t bother meI got tired of sanctimonious tryhard evangelical convert foids with their headscarves and I stopped wearing one to Liturgy, even though I was raised covering my head in church.

I think it's required in traditional Catholic circles for women to cover their head in Church. One time I forgot mine and did a kleenex on my head LOL

some Orthodox parishes “require” it but you can’t really make anyone do it. it’s a custom from a different time and culture. again, I was raised doing it and I don’t oppose it in any way except it’s a sensory distraction for me. trying to get authoritarian with women is not going to make them embrace real modesty. most amerikwans have no idea what that is. they think it just means not showing too much cleavage, and nothing more. possibly if wammans shut up and allow the Lord to change them through Liturgy they might desire modesty because it pleases God. no one can compel that

Wow! That tissue on the head trick brought back memories. If you didn't have a head covering and the priest saw, he would kick you out of Mass.

I do believe the Church has gotten too lax with modesty for both sexes. And I do agree it stems from a lack of respect for Our Lord. If you TRULY believe in the presence of God in the Holy Eucharist, you would dress accordingly. Women especially would try to find loopholes and still dress to impress the other people (mostly other women lets be honest) there rather than just to please God.

I feel naked without my headcover in Church tbh. I do think you can wear a nice hat at well, (as long as it's not distracting). But it's a different time now.

Yeah hats are usually (not always) more a young and elderly thing at our parish, with ladies in the middle in scarves - but that’s local custom methinks and not universal

I wish I could wear a hat but I wouldn't for the above mentioned reason; not wanting to draw attention. I feel lace mantillas are more expected and traditional, at least in my circles.

That falls under basic modesty. Anything too tight, or too revealing is inappropriate.

that’s a Russian/Ukie thing. talk about a different culture. 70 years of godlessness left a marknot one of the Greek yiayias at church cover. they tell me it was a big deal in the 60s and 70s to stop doing it bc it made you look like an old ladypeople get so pharasaically legalistic about head covering, and it’s ALWAYS the converts. this has begun to annoy me. big “thank God I’m not like other men” vibes

if my husband asked me to I would resume head-covering but he doesn’t care. I have the well-dressed kind of autism; I put a lot of thought and care into my appearance and I don’t look out of place anywhere. mama made damn sure I knew about modesty

This isn't the Russians, just westernized meds whose families funded the first churches in the area. I've only been to one Russian Orthodox church and they were all nice, but they were also all Russian expats. They wore the head scarves, but the average age of the room was also 80ish I think.

@missjanedoe @vitalis It always amuses me how fat every reenactor is compared to medieval depictions, both male and female. It's difficult to see through the clothes and armor sometimes, but these people were Pereira-tier skinny.
