@abmurrow yeah for sure, the threadiverse is becoming concentrated propaganda lately. I found it’s better after having blocked a few specific instances though.

The fact that the developers of one of the main engines of the Threadiverse are already politically biased, and thus their flagship instances are as well, does not help things much either.

(1/?)@csolisr> the developers of one of the main engines of the Threadiverse are already politically biasedBias is not the problem. *Everyone* has biases, and people who think they don't tend to be the most biased of all. It's blind imposition of our own biases on other people who do that.

(2/?)Perhaps the Lemmy devs do that on the services they moderate. But if so they're far from alone in that.In fact, isn't that kind of the point of having a network made of different services with autonomous mods? Any effective team of mods will have both individual and collective biases, but we can choose the ones that create the kind of social web experience we want.

(3/3)I've seen no evidence that the political biases of the Lemmy devs affect the way they build the software. Unlike certain other projects I could mention. That fact that I broadly agree with the biases of the Tusky devs is neither here nor there;https://disintermedia.net.nz/ethical-technology-and-political/

The amount of propaganda bots trying to sign up lately is bonkers. The fediverse feels like it’s becoming a battleground for information warfare. Be safe out there

@jerry There could be ten thousands of propaganda bots blasting away at their cold hearts content and most streams wouldn’t blip. Just your poor servers would have to toil.

(1/2)What @masek said. I suspect that the propaganda farmers get most of their tech info from low-effort, trend-chasing articles in the SillyCon Valley tech press, including the ones reporting on Mastodon as if it's an alternative platform like CoHost was;https://codeberg.org/fediverse/fediparty/wiki/The-fediverse-on-the-web@jerry

(2/2)Quite the opposite; the decentralised structure makes it hard for posts to get broad reach without significant human cooperation. Their posts don't even get seen outside the services they're posted on unless they can convince some people to follow their bots, and maybe Boost some of the posts.

@strypey But god's mercy be with us, if ever someone takes over the account of @catsalad or @briankrebs.
