The parents can block traffic (buy software or routers) with ease. Some might say, "well they'll just get around it." So? The parent can make their moral stance clear. They might even say, "I look at porn sometimes too, but I feel guilty because I know it's wrong," if they want to be honest. That can instill the value, even if society can't really stop proliferation. The kid knows why their parents believe whatever and can choose to act on it or ignore it.If the parent doesn't care .. then whatever. @mangeurdenuage on the bright side parental controls for computers have come a pretty long way. I really don't think they're gonna stumble upon stuff in school computer labs. Then it's just a matter of control at home. It's tough to commit to never letting them have computers or phones cuz then they won't learn how to use them, but it's easy to lock the devices down and if anything I would be happy if one of my kids could actually jailbreak their devices on their own to get around it. That's serious skills Of course my kids don't have these devices yet cuz they are too young, but I worry about this often @coolboymew @djsumdog

I had a computer in my bedroom as a kid, but it didn't have internet. I played whacky wheels and comander keen and wrote stupid little qbasic programs on it. learned a heck of a lot dinking around with it. Just crack open the case of an old laptop and disconnect the antenna wires from the wifi card. Anything they need to download, they can use your laptop under supervision and a thumb drive, otherwise let them go nuts with it like it's 1996 🤷♀️

I was above and beyond the material. First class the teacher was an annoying bitch that would preferred to have me being annoying in class (I wasn't, I fell asleep and he never stopped being an annoying bitch about it after) than just let me do whatever the fuck I wanted. I showed up because of the shitty ass quizzes, which I never read the material because you just had to read a single page of text to fill out a simple quiz, I was eating that kinda shit for breakfast for years at that pointIf I could've just showed up for exams, I would have aced everything without even being there, reading any materials, etc.

@djsumdog @coolboymew The best solution for any parent is to not set up any user accounts on any of the computers at home and instead give their kids one of those flash-drives with a custom Linux distro that has a whitelist of approved websites and software (there are companies that sell them if you can't make them yourself). There is not much to work around if you can only use the computer with said drive and a whitelist. Though the kid may have a tech-savvy friend who may give them a Linux flash drive without a whitelist, but that's probably the only loophole.
