They weed whacked the #antsFivePoints đ˘I may make a sign that says âPollinator Sanctuary: Do Not Mowâ â it looks so horrible. The good news is someone else is picking up trash in the park which is good for the ants and other insectsâ Iâm kinda depressedâ

I don't understand why people think this is better on a hill that can't be used as a lawn. There are big lawns in the park and that's fine to cut... but this ONE LITTLE HILL is the only place with some unbothered grass. The good news is the parks department may not be back for like two months... so better in spring than later I guess. The ants are all confused, but some are collecting seeds. There were also some birds eating a lot of seeds and probably ants and other bugs.

@geonz It's not real "lawn grass" so it looks horrible when they do this too.

@futurebird To make it more believable, try broadcasting some native plant seeds, like this mix from the Experimental Farm Network: https://store.experimentalfarmnetwork.org/collections/native-perennial-flowers/products/savannah-mix

@skyfaller That's probably a good idea. With the grass cut we could call this an opportunity.

@futurebird These seeds won't sprout until next year if you simply spread them on the ground, because they require cold stratification. If you want native plants sooner it will take more effort or money.

@skyfaller Well then we might need to wait for fall I guess? It will be interesting to see how the grass grows back.

@futurebird @skyfaller To supplement Skyfaller, Perhaps this list of spring, summer, fall perennials can help? Your growing season is just starting up. I'd broadcast summer seeds and rely on the summer rain. All is not lost. https://www.longislandnatives.com/native-new-york-perennials/

@futurebird in olden days weed-whacking evolved to create landscapes which drained the souls of passersbys, whose souls were then provided unto Arioch, Lord of Chaos, for his divine feasting. But in these latter days, genAI users provide souls in vastly more copious volumes, so I don't understand why anyone bothers with weed-whacking.
