I get kind of emotional and upset about people getting taken by scams and I'm realizing I really live in the wrong damn country to have this sensitivity.

It's a deep sense of literalism. "But you said it would help with X and it does nothing, makes it worse! And ... you know it!"A lot of people just think this is "part of the game" ... but it drives me nuts. And it's not like I know anyone who has been hurt... it's just the concept. "People would do that? Go on the internet and tell lies?" << ME FOREVER

@futurebird I get very upset about it. America doesn't have the corner on scams, though...

@futurebird lately i genuinely feel like a lot of americans (somehow) experience being scammed as meaningful, and affirming, and a way of demonstrating identity and creating community

@futurebird if you have elderly people on your life, you have to be constantly on the lookout.

@futurebird the usa: a nation destroyed by the ability of its industries to scam, decieve, and manipulate its people.
