I drove from Monterey to the mountains today across the valley. There was almost no traffic on the road. It was pretty similar to early in the pandemic. I wonder if that's because of fuel prices. I paid $5.89/gal in Prather to top up before heading up the grade. The cheapest I saw on 99, 168, or 152 was $5.49/gal.

@douglasvb I think the only traffic I saw today was mostly headed to the "No Kings" protest locally.

@ai6yr it's such a nice day that I figured there would be a lot of traffic out and about but it was dead.

@douglasvb I do think gasoline is crimping down on "recreational driving". I went to the library, which was completely empty, but that's probably the protests more than gasoline.

@ai6yr @douglasvb I have no way of measuring but highway traffic at my house seems normal. The usual mix of cars, pickups, and semis.

@Dougfir @ai6yr @douglasvb $4.79 here in Denver. Prices have nearly doubled and there IS a real difference in weekend traffic. 70 westbound traffic was so empty I started to get a little agoraphobic on my ride today. They added another two traincars to most of our metro rail lines. We entered a stage 1 drought earlier in the week as well and farmers in the east are concerned due to the war they can't get fertilizer for planting next month. With the Canadian tarriffs we are basically one of only two American states with an appreciable winter wheat crop. Trump canceled a water projects funding here and defunded a major climate center in golden. Polling by the newspaper shows places like Durango and Colorado springs (firmly red) will likely go blue instead this year. Two Republican candidates this year basically just dropped out due to lack of any realistic ability to win.
