Sunni's (the majority of muslims technically) typically don't assign much credence to the idea that Khamenei was a literal descendant of the Prophet Muhammad. Its actually very petty and stupid but the muslims quiblle over things a lot like White Nationalists in this regard.That being said, no Sunni would ever context how devout Khamenei was, unless they are zog shill or retarded.

Muslims don't admit it but they believe but Muhammad had divine aspects to his nature, they never admit he had any flaws or weaknesses.

Shias hold Sunnis accountable for the martyrdom of the prophet's family, their core weekly ritual is reciting the story from hadiths and they decorate their homes with images of it.The memory never faded like it mostly has from the days of Protestant jihad in England and Europe. If anything it's intensified. If there is mutual sympathy it's only a bond over 3rd worldist resentment, which is pretty much all that's left of Muslim culture anyway.

@Sovereign @Amalek_Respector @Terry An interesting feature in [Twelver] Shi'a Islam is you can pick who you want your "marja" to be. As far as I know most religious Iranians follow Sistani as their "Pope" (an Iranian who I think moved back to Iraq after Saddam was ousted). Khamenei as your actual marja is actually more popular among Shi'as in Pakistan and without looking it up I would guess a lot of the South Asian diaspora in East Africa
