Homebrew: 🤓we don't support anything except the latest macos version 🤓 if it doesn't work on your macos you should just upgrade to the latest version 🤓 we don't provide support on any other version, things will break, and this is expectedMacports: :nerdmouse: powerpc macs? sure thing, we support thatimage.jpg

@eris that was a completely different system with almost nothing in common with 10 whatsoever, so i don't think so

@vaartis @eris it didn't even have a command line of any kind by default, so any kind of package manager would necessarily be graphical, making Homebrew totally useless.

Part of me was thinking "oh maybe macports is THAT old". But I suppose it does rely a lot on UNIXisms being availableCC: @famicom@pl.kotobank.ch @vaartis@pl.kotobank.ch

@eris @famicom well, macports did release in 2002 first, which means at the time macos 9 was still in use (via the classic environment sandbox)

@vaartis @eris given that mac os 9 already had an actual public funeral at WWDC in 2002, it's understandable why they decided not to put any effort into supporting it

@famicom @eris especially if they knew they'd be supporting it for 25 years

@vaartis @eris exactly. Ultimately, there's very little difference between Leopard and Sequoia when it comes to command-line applications. Both have a modern C compiler (Leopard doesn't by default, but you can easily bootstrap a modern gcc), both are standard-compliant Unixes, which is basically all you need to write something command-line.
