@Deplorable_DegenerateI have a keyless starter. And the battery went dead in the fob. There is a physical key to get in and out of the car. And IRs worth noting the detector to confirm the key is in the car needs less battery than the lock/unlock button. So we were manually opening the door for a few weeks before finally getting a new battery. Replacement key was about $400 though. so the motors themselves on new vehicles are actually better than they've ever been ever. What's not is the government regulation, the world regulations, that forced the companies to put ridiculous sensors and other electronics on the motors. You will have sensor issues and Tech issues that are so expensive to fix your better off to Just Junk it. But the motor would run for 300,000 miles probably. The reason most of the cars are built with so much plastic is because they have to do it for weight. with that said, it's actually the dealerships that demand all the stupid touch screen bullshit and overpriced Chinese trash that goes into these. Even cars in the 50's and 60's were ultra reliable as a result (the main issue is that parts would get dirty, and would need to be periodically cleaned). So car companies to over come this "everlasting gobstopper" situation they created, promoted a culture of "keeping up with the Jones's" by radically changing aesthetics every few years, forcing people to trade in cars to keep up with the latest fashions, trends, and safety equipment.But as computers, CAD tools, engineering standards improved, they've been able to better dial in roughly when parts would fail. This lead them to making items that are more likely to fail in the near future, even though the tolerances and performance is superior off the lot to older cars. Why do they do this? Sometimes to keep weight down, they are in a losing battle in needing more safety equipment, forcing them to reduce weigh elsewhere while maintaining the demand for increased fuel economy. But they also use the "fuel economy" thing as a cover for forced obsolescence. Something I heard recently is that a lot of car companies are placing belts inside the engine. This is, as they claim, to get them a less than 1% increase in fuel economy. However, because it's in the engine, the rubber belt swells, and this causes the engine to eventually get out of sync, destroying it, likely after 10~15 years on the road. I think this was obviously done deliberately to get these cars off the road in 20 years, reducing the number of used cars on the market.

There should still be high-speed dedicated traffic infrastructure of course, but making drivers feel less safe at high speeds so they have to slow down (i.e. traffic calming) is the basis of safe urban planning for residential and business streets. Attempting to use every strip of asphalt as both a road for transit and a street for living and trading on is why our traffic-related death and injury rates are so high.

@MCMLXVIIOTG @Goalkeeper @WilhelmIII If you're wearing the 4 point harness you won't even go into the "immovable object", the problem with the driver's airbag is that it generally knocks you out, but in an emergency situation the driver remaining awake and alert is crucial.Ofc every vehicle is different. But in my experience airbags are only useful for side impacts to protect children in the passenger seats. But again, rollcage, 4 point harnesses, etc. etc. would go much further for public safety.
