So pocket is shutting down. It's fatiguing to have your digital life depend on so many externalities that you don't control. If I have food in my fridge, I can eat. If I have clothes in my closet I can get dressed and go outside. It won't all disappear at a moment's notice because some decision was made somewhere. In the digital world, permanence is a mirage. You can't really depend on anything being there, unless you control it all from the hardware to the software.

@teleclimber@social.tchncs.de If I have food in my fridge, I can eat.In your analogy, all this stuff you actually own in your own home. The software you use however does not follow this same analogy. It'd be more apt to compare it to a restaurant. You can't go into the restaurant and just eat the food, you'll have to pay first. The restaurant can close at any time, and they're not required to give you the recipes of their food before doing so.If you want your analogy to make sense, you should also own your software, and own it right in your own home. Get a (small) server and self-host free (as in freedom) software yourself, in your own home. Then you get to decide when and how to consume it, and how long it remains there. Just like with the food in your fridge 😉.

Dang, another one today:https://me.dm/@anildash/114552880104048455@anildash Glitch is where many people hosted their little personal apps. I wish I had Dropserver further along so this could stop happening.
