@thefinn Coming here to fedi in j21 (I was on FSE first) was what blackpilled me on gab and durbo. I saw how @p and graf could run FSE on a shoestring and it worked pretty much all the time, compared to the floating flaming dumpster fire blab was in j21. And there he was with his hand out telling us if we'd just give moar shekels everything would be better. I've not believed a word out of his mouth since.

@p @thefinn At this point, after all that's happened, I do not even care. Gab was good for me, though some of my friends might not agree. The fedi is a total hugbox compared to it.

I mean, you're less likely here than on Gab to post something and then twenty people all post "fag" as a single-word reply, but Gab soft-blocked FSE before they even opened the door to federation.The internet in 2024 is somewhat more tame overall than networked communications once were. I only meant that it seems that this week, anyway, ppl are less likely here to assume that an unclear or maladroit comment was made in bad faith and frantically, reflexively lash out. My smarty-pants brother who died long ago was active on boards in the 80s. I remember reading over his shoulder and also chatting over dialup with people who when they found out I was 17 wanted to know what I was wearing. Heh.

Nearly every sentence out of his mouth started with "We must fight the" or something like that, like the gablin paranoia is a core facet of Gab. (So, he wanted to manage press relations for FSE, I was like...okay. He insisted I start selling shirts and put up a donation button right away, and I was like "This site costs, like, nothing. Maybe we'll do shirts later, that'd be cool." Eventually he left on his own when I told him to stop picking fights with randos and spamming gamer words at them.
