Watt-meter incorporated to a usb-c cable. The cool-est thing I saw recently, I had to get one :DThis is both very gadget-y and very cool to see how much power is drawed from the powerline at any time!

Crazy to see the power-profiles-daemon impact on the energy draw once the battery is fully charged! 22W on performance mode, 14W in power-saving mode.

@picnoir wondering if you've also noticed that Guix seems to eat a lot of battery in suspend. I have two laptops with near identical hardware, one running Debian, one Guix, and the Guix one drains the battery significantly more when suspended. Don't have hard numbers, but easily 2-3x the drain of the Debian box.Any ideas what might cause that?

@ieure I assume your hardware is not set to the right sleep mode. It's really hardware-dependant. It's probably best to have a look at nixos-hardware and see what has to be done. For my framework laptop, I had to add https://git.alternativebit.fr/picnoir/guix-config/src/branch/master/systems/framework.scm#L65 to the kernel argument to get the laptop to go in deep sleep mode.

@picnoir I used this kind of gadget in my metrology lab just to compare...That's enough to give an idea of the power consumption and the behavior of a device. The value is at +/-10/20% of uncertainty.(I used it to understand how a new voltage sensor was working with several wiring diagram...with an USB charging mode)

That's rather quite a lot. You'd expect about half of that.

@Atemu It was charging when I took the picture. The laptop (framework, 12th gen i5) draws ~10watts idle underclocked, ~30watts compiling max-clocked. under-max clocked via power-profiles-daemon.Unrelated: I don't get any notifications when you respond to my threads, weird.

@picnoir I meant the idle power comsumption. 10W sounds more reasonable depending on the display brightness.Perhaps it's because I didn't mention you? If you got one now, that's likely it.

@Atemu Seems like that's it. Got the notification this time.
