@webmink Crazy. I just took it as trigger to finally install #jitsi on my VPS. Works like a charm. Now no one has a reason to invite me to zoom anymore 😅

@webmink Considering there were a lot of businesses doing meeting with them, those things seem like shooting themselves in the foot. And what about doctors...?

@webmink I work in the UK in a biomedical research institute.I'm idly wondering if there are any GDPR, IP or other (clinical) data implications of the recent Zoom updated TOS? If (hypothetically) I discuss patient data or data relating to a future patent, and Zoom has full unfettered access to transcripts and video would this be an issue for patient confidentiality, or future patent applications.

@webmink Unfortunately for blind people in particular as well as other people with disabilities, Zoom is effectively the only accessible and/or usable platform for this sort of thing, and its pennetration in the telemedicine industry imay very well cause massive disruption to patients either being forced to use something else they cannot, or telemedicine being axed altogether. Many of these people have many challenges to get to a face-to-face appointment. Some ignorent data grabbing results in disabled patients suffering, I can only hope that this is an unintended consequence.

@webmink It is also the rule, rather than the exception, that FOSS does not / cannot truly devote the needed effort to accessibility.

@x0 Zoom just added this to clause 10.4:"Notwithstanding the above, Zoom will not use audio, video or chat Customer Content to train our artificial intelligence models without your consent."It's inadequate and reeks of desperation, but suggests they are sensitive to the issue - which is a good sign.

@webmink Thanks for the explanation on why Zoom's new TOS is not great. Also yeah... Nowadays consent is when you accidentally forgot to uncheck a checkbox while installing.I wonder how people would feel if we applied that idea to sexual consent...

@dexter Sorry, that's not a capability I have ever needed so I have not researched it. The occasions I have needed to help someone remotely I've used two tools together.

@webminkBut what other service works even remotely well, then? Tried Jitsi a couple of times, and had to revert. Sound or camera issues made it impossible :(@ljo

@elmerot @webmink First of all I would like walk through your experiences with #JitsiMeet and sort out your issues so that we can get you using it again. It is a quite large matrix of parameters, especially if there were different groups of people involved in your couple of test runs. We can also test some other options, which do exist. But since our @fps_gbg public services are #JitsiMeet I want you to be able to onboard people safely with ease and confidence.

@ljoSounds like a plan for a rainy day! Both me and my cokleague are comparatively well versed with computers, which means it's a puty if out-of-the-box tests do fail. @webmink @fps_gbg

@elmerot @ljo @fps_gbg Do note that have exactly the experiences you describe with Zoom, and find Jitsi runs smoothly, but no-one at Zoom has ever offered to help! So I would suggest it's worth taking this offer to get Jitsi at least to the point where you understand what is causing the problem, even if you can't fix it! FWIW, generally people are forgiving with what they know and highlight faults in what they don't - what I call Lock-In Syndrome https://the.webm.ink/lock-in-syndrome.
