Can someone explain the substantial difference of outcome and disinfo between me photoshopping the pope into balenciaga jacket vs. me telling stable diffusion to do it?

@map scalability/effort. You don't need to pay someone on fiver a few bucks and wait a few hours, it's cents and instant.

@tante Is scalability a major issue for disinfo agents? Literally overflowing the internet with bullshit has probably adverse effects to their intent.

@map if you want to make a narrative look "acceptable", putting it everywhere is an important part. It's kinda like stochastic terrorism. The calculation is to make sure that people keep seeing your narrative. It doesn't need to be super convincing at first, it needs to become familiar first. Then at some point some people will become converts. For this strategy scale (and cost reduction) is important. Now we don't know what happens when more organizations get access to this (due to it becoming cheaper) but my gut feeling is that the effect is still relevant for at least a few more years
