I really admire how @matrix continues to get better & am surprised that folks still insist on using a closed & corporate owned platform like Keybase...

@kmontenegro @matrix I am a fan, but I uninstalled it a while ago because it relies on technologies that are not designed to be secure despite Matrix promises to be secure. Technologies like WebRTC and VoIP I mean. Why couldn't they do it like the way that Signal did?

@hadilq @kmontenegro Signal supports VoIP, and does so via WebRTC: https://github.com/signalapp/webrtc. Meanwhile Element supports disabling p2p voip on all platforms if you want to sacrifice performance for privacy.

@hadilq @kmontenegro @matrix thanks for your response. It may be good to mention that the Signal team applied some security patches which may be missing in Element. Also after using both of them for a long time, I never had a missed call in Signal to just get my IP address, but I had more than a couple of them with Matrix from accounts I've never interact with them before.

@hadilq signal looks to be as vulnerable to webrtc bugs as any other, eg: https://googleprojectzero.blogspot.com/2020/08/exploiting-android-messengers-part-3.html

@hadilq @matrix I understand. Maybe my end result was depending on my different usecase for them, but I still blame poor UX of Element for what happened to me. Would you deny sharing extra information, such as IP address, with any user by default? Of course after asking for permission for a specific user it's okay.

@kmontenegro @matrix Matrix need to work on the default client Element, it's a trash heap. Keeps crashing. Whether I use the flatpak or rpm.

@timapple @kmontenegro element doesn’t publish an official rpm or flatpak, so whatever your using is unfortunately a downstream screwup.

@matrix @kmontenegro So I went to element.io and all you guys provide is a .deb which skips a large portion of Linux. Maybe focusing on Flatpak would be the way to go? At this point I can't use your package since I run Fedora.
