@selea interesting. I also remember a lot of SUN Sparc servers were being replaced in the early 2000s. So it wasn't just an extinction of workstations of course.at my first job in 2004 I got an UltraSparc for free because they had migrated away from Sun.

@selea haha no. maybe I did when I lived in Augustenborg around 2012, but there was a flood at some point and I lost 2 rack servers and the UltraSparc. It was suuuuper slow. old SCSI disk. it was used mostly for fun and as a shellbox for some friends. we're talking 15+ years ago here.but I remember a lot of stories of organisations migrating away from SUN around that time. never thought about the workstation side of it all tho.

@selea @thomholwerda At my current job, which I've had for over 15 years now, I was first hired as a Unix workstation administrator. Now I do practically all Windows. So yeah, I've seen this happen in real-time. It can be like archaeology trying to delve into this stuff now.

@selea @thomholwerda the IRIX-based SGI O2 I had on my desk 20+ years ago has been the coolest and sexiest workstation I ever used.
