Does anyone else feel that there may be something even darker and more dangerous on the other side of tech censorship? I look at the incredible turnaround of cloudflare on terminating Kiwifarms, and Elon going from talking about free speech to bringing in the ADL and a dozen other pozzed orgs and it really seems inorganic. I know neither of these situations were perfect, and I expected Elon to cuck out a bit, but a 180 degree turnaround in a matter of days from multiple people makes me feel very uneasy. Both of these guys are supposed to be very rich and powerful, and I get the vibe they looked into the abyss and what they saw made them run away with their tails between their legs.

@kokujin it's very likely that his contracts with the government, starlink, space-x and tesla subsidies, were all threatened. very easy for the federal government to do, they've done it before.

@MoonNah, he just saw how the place actually (doesn't) make money, advertisers were already winding things down, and then he comes in and scares the shit out of them. It's always advertisers. He doesn't get that if you have a free service with a million users, and then ask them to pay a penny per month, you will lose 950,000+ users. @kokujin

@Moon I think thats pretty likely, but it really shows just how bad things are. If this is fundamentally the government making these calls it shows just how much shit is going on in the background. How many politicians who would claim to oppose this are either lying, or left in the dark so they can't actually fix it. How many people who supposedly have power, like Elon or Prince, are truly at the whims of the system no matter how much money they have or how big their company is. I think alot of people are realizing this is the situation, but seeing it happen in such a short amount of time with such a change of tone really scares me with how potent these threats must be.

@r000t @Moon Have to disagree there. If Elon's primary goal was making money off the purchase he wouldn't have taken the company private, and he wouldnt be trying to change the buisiness model. If he had any financial endgame with twitter, I don't think it was through ads. It also wouldn't explain the cloudflare turnaround. I know these are 2 different events, but the sharp change in approach in a matter of days indicates to me that they both saw an imminent threat coming for them.

@kokujin Ehh, what happened with CF and the Kiwi Farms wasn’t anything new, they terminated The Daily Stormer and 8chan in a similar way. They’re a publicly traded company, that’s what pressured them into terminating KF, 8ch, and TDS. Twitter is totally reliant on advertising to function, nothing about this is new. Elon Musk isn’t some sort of “based gigachad” who’s gonna let everyone spam the N-word. Though, meeting with the ADL does seem like a bit much. The censorship apparatus is powerful, but that’s nothing new. This is happening because our government refused to break up monopolies in the tech field. If there were 3-4 competing “Twitters” of similar sizes, and the Internet backbone was less centralized, we wouldn’t be having these problems.Right now, their grip is strong enough that they have decided to start flexing their muscles, their public support is (unfortunately) strong as well. The worst part is, EVEN IF the political climate shifts away from woke bullshit, the Internet will be forever damaged. Censorship ALWAYS harms the powerless. The corporations have established a framework for taking down any site or service that they don’t like, if the political climate shifts, it will be used by the people in power against the powerless. However satisfying it may be for me to see troons suffer from the world that THEY created, in reality, it will hurt everyone in the long run.
