Everyone pressing vinyl has a 10 month backlog it seems. Are people really buying this much vinyl these days?

@JarboTheHutt when you’ve got nothing better to do during a worldwide lockdown you pick up new hobbies + supply side shortages

@JarboTheHutt It wouldn’t surprise me if it was just related to the economic downturn and general supply chain problems

I get the supply chain problems but all the mastering companies I've spoken to say they've never been this busy ever and they're turning business to other firms. Just found it interesting that a format which is essentially dead is seeing such a resurgence.

@JarboTheHutt @balrog_booger I can see it, lockdown in soy states kinda pushed people back into their home and hobbies, working from home. For those with easy, make-work bullshit jobs life suddenly got a lot more free, you have people at 41 finally able to come up for air realizing they’re NOW in that phase of life with disposable income to pursue old passions. I don’t think the vinyl industry has had much throughput anyway, seems like every time I’ve heard about it they’ve been at 100% capacity since 2012, but I’d totally believe they’ve got a large backlog.

@JarboTheHutt Vinyl records can still play even without electricity. Much better than an MP3, cassette tape, or CD.

@JarboTheHutt Vinyl saw a huge surge in popularity about 10 years ago and it has not let up. Production capacity is small and new vinyl records are significantly thicker than old vinyl, requiring more material.I would definitely buy a record if you had one made.

If I can raise the money and find someone to cut it within a reasonable amount of time that is the plan
