Gleann AlbainnWhat a difference. After weeks of rain, we had a glorious sunny day for the #DogWalk. Unfortunately, it will be back to the usual script to-morrow.#Gruoch #Highlands #Scotland #photo #photography #dogs

@fitheach Even without the image description I knew that this must be Loch Lòchaidh. I suppose somewhere north of Clunes, a bit further north than this spot where I camped in July.

@pandora You were very close. 😃 My photo was taken just south of An Dà Chluain.

@fitheach Ah, I remember that I liked the area around Clunes very much. A pleasant setting with great views and a peaceful atmosphere. (I guess the good weather and the fact that I was back on a paved road after the very bumpy ride through the forest also played a role).I tried to imagine what it must be like to live there. It's not too far from the shops in Fort William, but still out remote enough and with no through traffic.

@pandora I don't live there, nearish though.Having the shops in An Gearasdan (I hate that name) is convenient. The place is big enough to have most of the essential shops and services, although it is not the most scenic of places. I'll be back there to-morrow.

@fitheach To be honest, I've never particularly liked An Gearasdan, and I've never understood why the whole town is built facing away from the loch. Also, this year I found that the shops in the self-proclaimed outdoor capital of Britain are pretty useless when you need to replace a vital piece of your outdoor equipment, in my case a broken tent pole. The supermarkets are convenient, though.

@pandora To be fair, I've never encountered a shop which carries tent spares. What make is your tent?

@fitheach To be fair, Nevisport wasn't too bad. At least they knew what I was talking about and also had some spare poles (and other "special" parts). It wasn't their fault that they didn't fit my tent.

@pandora Really?Next time I see Ian Sykes (founder of Nevisport) I'll tell him you were more impressed with his shop than any of the others.

@fitheach Exped, a Swiss company, but the poles are made by DAC, so pretty standard for better tents. At Tiso in Invernesss they worked miracles when the first of my tent poles broke on this trip. They had a secret stash of odd spare parts from broken tents and were able to replace the pole.

@pandora I've had my Blacks of Greenock Stormshield tent for 25+ years. I've never broken a tent pole.

@fitheach Yes, please do. I've checked all the outdoor shops in An Gearasdan and Nevisport is the only one worthy of the name "outdoor shop".

@fitheach Yes, same with my other tents. In more than 30 years of camping, I have never had a broken pole. And then two tent poles at that! The first one broke in the middle of the night when I was camping at Loch Droma in extremely high winds. The second time it was my own clumsiness when I was pitching my tent at the official wild campsite at Loch Lòchaidh and a gust of wind came.

@pandora Official wild campsite? That's a new concept, for me.Did you camp where the Forestry Commission car park is at An Dà Chluain? My "Stormshield" lives up to its name, the wind doesn't bother it:https://mstdn.io/@fitheach/108481502291408803
