@natalie I am curious to how valid his point actually is, since that he speaks with confidenceIs it even true that there's such binary, or is it just misinformation that he actually believes in?I hope to offend no one, but you should take everything with a grain of salt, specially on the internet

@millie@mastodon.coffee disinformation, idk whether he believes it or not, but he's ex-microsoft so it's probably a kneejerk reactionin any event it's nonsense. some drivers do need binary blobs but that's due to the hardware manufacturers, it is not some kind of deliberate choice by torvalds or anyone involved with linux

@MischievousTomato@varishangout.net @libc@snack.social https://www.atg.wa.gov/news/news-releases/attorney-general-s-office-sues-settles-washington-based-softwareonlinecom“SoftwareOnline misrepresented the extent to which its InternetShield and Registry Cleaner products are necessary to prevent attacks from malicious Web sites and computers crashes. The company then sold consumers programs they claim will protect them from such hazards,” Tassi said. “SoftwareOnline also used billing practices intended to sell its products without a buyer’s explicit consent.”

@natalie @millie plus if you realy care abt that, linux-libre is a thing and is usable assuming you have 20-year old hardware

@chjara @natalieLearning everydayIt's not that I am too worried about it, or at all, I just like asking about and/or checking the validity of statements made about things I'm interested inI'll look it up even though I don't have hardware that old

@chjara@snowdin.town @natalie@nya.social I hope it's true, so that to get the source for all nonsense firmware in existence, we just need to capture Linus. :blobcatgiggle2:

@niconiconi @natalie not torvalds but beating the source out of broadcom engineers might be a good reverse engineering effort

@natalie i'd be interested to see what that binary blob does, should be easy to reverse engineer since it would need to be compiled for a dozen architectures :^)

@natalie Windows is a supermax prison, Linux is a commune with a locked shed full of wifi drivers (unless you use linux-libre).
