What trends in computing do you think will become just part of the computing landscape in the decades to come?

Here's some predictions:* Deep learning AI will become more prominent with at least a few major applications.* TPUs will eventually become a product.* The gaming deck format (Nintendo Switch, Steam Deck) will become more popular until it's a normal part of the gaming/computing landscape.

@urusan distributed service hosting. Sometime after Twitter makes itself into a 'web5 app', the idea of getting hosting from a single place or company becomes passé.Hosting companies will either fight tooth and nail to pretend they're still relevant (and slowly fade out) or transition themselves into Distributed Hosting Providers, where they use their old hardware to earn what is probably still fucking bitcoin and then use that bitcoin to host your website for you.

@urusanI bet in a couple of decades, a quantum computing CPU will be an add-on chip, like buying a GPU graphics card. They'll gradually increase in entangled bits.No idea how they'll manage that technically, but I still bet they will.

@urusan - Google will make a fully browser-based operating system- the US or EU will test out a digital currency- several governments and corporations will be able to break RSA- there will be a major hard fork of Linux

@urusan Fundamental compromises of a quarter of all Internet services a few times a year, thanks to centralisation. To be honest it seems like the decision-makers already see this as "just part of computing" nowadays.

@TerryHancock @urusanOr… quantum computing will be too expensive and proprietary to own. The most popular option is to rent the computer. You will own nothing and be happy.

@StampedingLonghorn @TerryHancock @urusan It's still incredibly hard to scale quantum computing hardware, and it only has an advantage over classical computing in very niche areas. My guess is that it will end up as very fancy lab/military equipment.

@urusan I choose to believe that a TPU is a Tape Processing Unit and it takes C60 compact cassettes, just like in the good old days. The pixels just sound *warmer* when you load them off tape.

@urusan I agree with the first two but not the last. As the economy continues to take a dive under WEF guidance, people won't be able to afford non-productive luxuries.
