Ordered some books in order to get my HAM-radio certification. And when thats done I can finally start building some AREDN nodesA friend of mine just put up the first node in Sweden, hopefully our project can grow into a bigger network soon

@selea he he en timme är dyrt i livspusslet. Får ladda hem den kolla på mindre sittningar. Men om jag inte cyklar för snett är det data över radio / "Wifi över kortvåg"?

@selea Jag... gillar verkligen inte PiStar, jag gillar dock att ha en hotspot.PiStar är ett riktigt junk som är riktigt yanky. Det gör massa galenskaper så som att switcha mellan readonly och readwrite filystem en gång per dygn för att köra ett updater-script... Som jag... mer än en gång varit med om att den i princip brickar sig själv.Därför bygger jag en reproducerbar config i nixos som kan producera SD-kort images och OTA updates.

@selea Looks interesting. Might set up a node myself at some point, though no other nodes are nearby. The closest one (in BG) won't be reachable on 2.4GHz or 5GHz.One more reason to move to Germany where the network is denser.

@selea I have been a little interested in HAM but never had a starting goal in mind, apart from “get a radio and talk to people”. Which isn’t really my thing 🙃 But I’ve never heard of AREDN. I think I found my project!

@selea Great idea! I’ve taught a basic ham license class in the U.S. and have presentation slides on various aspects like electrical theory. Let me know if you want to see them. Sweden’s certification would obviously be different, perhaps completely.AREDN looks very promising, I want to get into it myself! There are several nodes in this part of Oregon, so peering should be possible (though I may need to convince someone in a better spot to set up a node I can relay from).
