Sway straight up just crashed out of nowhere, we'll see if it's a consistent issue but I'll be mentioning it

No shot people think Wayland is ready for daily use, because of "security" hot keys can't function in OBS

@BrodieOnLinux you might be missing some protocol that OBS uses to tell the server to allow it listening for key presses even out-of-focus.Or there is no such protocol and OBS just doesn’t properly work on Wayland lol

@Amikke No Wayland is just designed by a crazy person who thinks any hotkeys must be a keylogger

@BrodieOnLinux Wayland is designed to wall off things by default but allow them to un-wall themselves as long as the server is cool with it.It’s honestly a big upgrade over X, but it’s also a major teething pain as the “allow” protocols are slowly being updated and adapted by toolkits and applications.

@Amikke it's a big upgrade in certain parts but for usability it's gone 10 years backwards

@BrodieOnLinux 10 years backwards a malicious mp4 file could root your system by key-logging /sudo .+\n(.+)\n/Security upgrades tend to cause usability downgrades as the ecosystem adapts. It won’t take 10 years, as projects like PipeWire that allows screen recording (which was also by default impossible) show.

@BrodieOnLinux Yeah I've had maybe 2-3 crashes in the month I've been on Sway. Just frequent enough for it to be annoying but not a huge issue.I still find enough advantages over X to keep me on it, but you're probably right about it not being ready for most people. I still feel the need to keep my old KDE X11 session around because things like gaming and screen sharing are either not possible or a pain to get working.

@Unairedspecifics I can always bind things in sway, the problem is I need something to call to control OBS

@BrodieOnLinux Yeah, guess it can't be used as a D-Bus replacement.
