Just noticed this in the iCloud terms of service... "If you do not agree to the terms of this license, do not use the iOS device or download the software update." OK, this is definitely new. Anyone have any insight on this? You can now no longer use an apple device without iCloud activated? #f*ckapple

@pyre35 Mine will not stop harassing me to agree. The only reason I even have one is to install a single app, which requires you to still have an apple account - which I do not want.At least once a day it pops up, totally randomly, trying to get me to agree to some terms.

@pyre35 Hum… that’s would be very surprising. Where did you see this?

@pyre35 This is why I'm looking at alternatives to the current set of ecosystems and am kind of looking at the PinePhone Pro when it comes out despite the software limitations.Because Google, Apple, and other device manufacturers have the ability - and have shown a willingness to - change the operation of the device in an update ; and there's no reason they couldn't, if they wanted to, disable the device completely if I didn't agree to terms or whatever. And I want to control my device.

@rridley mine pops up once a day and has the little notification number that won't go away despite how many times I disagree.

@trekkie1701c yes. I mean there is no good reason to require a user of a device that they bought to use your cloud services. That's why the device has physical storage. I feel like it's beyond a shameless way to try to get more money. I also highly suspect, although it seems that it is refuted, that this has something to do with the CSAM changes. I would love to get a pinephone but it won't work on my current network. That's why I'm currently looking at a mix of a flip-phone and wifiphone/alt

@pyre35 if you’re talking about the recent terms and conditions update (link below) I’m pretty sure you can use your phone without iCloud after having accepted the new terms.New iCloud T&C changes: https://www.reddit.com/r/ios/comments/ps48rc/icloud_new_terms_and_conditions/heg9ilq/

@ilyess the new terms state specifically that they are for iCloud, then go on to state you can't use your device without accepting them. I will not accept those terms and conditions. I should not have to accept terms for iCloud to use my iPhone. I'm trying to get to the bottom of this now as it seems they are just one step away from bricking phones that don't accept use of an unnecessary service.

@pyre35 Absolutely! I haven’t seen that clause stating that you can no longer use your device unless you accept the new terms. That’s just ridiculous!

@pyre35 I'd considered the same at one point. Dumbphone of some sort, WiFi Hotspot, and maybe a Raspberry Pi built into a tablet or some other open-ish device that could use Internet over WiFi.

@trekkie1701c I'm thinking Christmas present to myself. I wish I had time to deal with this but I don't. I'll see if it sorts itself out within a month (or my phone gets bricked), then I'm pulling the plug on a flip-phone. then, I can get whatever de-googled phone/pinephone/fairphone
