Oh god my bestie had to entrust me, the most childfree friend she has, to pick up her kid and babysit for a few hours. I got snacks, post-its and a giant tv, what else do I need to keep this tiny human alive?? 😅😅 #halp #adulting

@Gina I would suggest you to try to put your own "adult" self aside and play with her on her level. It can be very fun to see the world through a child's eyes.

@Gina as a parent of a three year old: snacks and television is superb survival strategy. You might need something the tiny human can drink and/or change it's diaper once or twice.

@mike @Gina #AuntGina :) Just be a good human to the little human. Hopefully the little one doesn't have any melt-downs that you don't understand. Beyond that. Favorite Foods, stuffed animals, talking and having a good conversation is where I'd start. It'll be fine.

@Gina if you have paper and colouring pencils, that might keep them entertained if they get fed up with the TV.Putting a kid on your knee and bouncing them up and down like they're riding a horse also works, although it's probably best to do that before they've eaten. 😂Resist the urge to give them your makeup or jewellery box. It'll keep them entertained, but at what cost? 😱

@Gina the presence of, and responsibility for, another’s tiny human can in fact be the most effective form of birth control. Of course it can also change one from Team #nope to Team #neeeeeed.I’ve pretty much continuously been surrounded by children for whom I was somewhat responsible since about 1989. They’re all still alive. You’ll be fine.

@ajmartinez @Gina This is definitely true, my toddler has flipped several friends from "I'll never have children" to "I suddenly want to start a family more than anything in the world".One specific friend broke up with her boyfriend because he was unwilling to have more children (he was older with adult children).

@Gina If you might be babysitting again, you should look into doing some basic childproofing. Things like getting electric socket covers and making sure nothing dangerous is easily accessible. You might also want to invest in a mid-size whiteboard and ultra washable markers. You can wipe it down with a wipe or wet paper towel and use it over and over again. Unlike dry erase markers, the ultra washable ones easily come off floors, walls, clothing, skin, etc.

@js290 @Gina As a former tiny human my memory is that parents prefer their tiny humans to be outside and will say "get out in the sun, you rascals!" every day, all summer.

@saper ok, I just poured her a whiskey and we're discussing Bo Burnham's recent show adressesing an existential angst felt in both Millenials and Gen Z's where capitalism is becoming increasingly unable to provide in basic necessities while at the same time destroying our planet. She noted that the worldwide trend of high inflation, low interest, wages stagnating and the housing and stock market being artificially inflated, means another economic crash is inevitable. Cool kid.

Fair point. On the other hand I think it's fair to say that's not what I discuss with all adults. =)I've had conversations with the 8-year-old that are 10% of this minus the whisky and that's deeper than the ones I have with neighbors and colleagues.
