Looks like the IndieGoGo campaign for the JingPad is live if you're interested in supporting a Linux tablet with a very iPadish interface. They've already met their suspiciously modest $20,000 goal. Not sure what that's about.https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/jingpad-world-s-first-consumer-level-linux-tablet#/

@thumb It does look SUPER iPad-ish. I've never been a huge fan of the Apple aesthetic, so not really for me. I do worry that that JingOS is just a little too iPad-ish for it's own good. If Apple decides to sick it's team of lawyers on them, it could be very problematic.

@mike The whole JingPad/JingOS thing seems like a gamble to me. 20000 is very little for such a project and the whole "let's clone an IPad" thing seems like a matter of time for Apple to notice

@mike @thumb I start losing interest in projects when they seem to be trying to hard to mimic something else. If this actually turns out to be legit you should be able to install an alternative system to it, assuming they don't go Apple in spirit as well as looks.

@mike afaik they have not released kernel sources yet and this is a new SoC from former spreadtrum, I wouldn't buy without first having some idea, how is the software support going to be like. This is second hand info though, but applying pressure on this would maybe help. Also I am not sure I saw anything about device not being locked down.though obviously by raw hardware specs this device looks nice akin to vaporous rk3588, maybe spreadtrum could be yet another rockchip.

@mike I would rather get a normal laptop amd64, I never liked ARM unless for small devices like Raspberry PI but not as a system to work with. And looks like there is no difference in a normal laptop, only that the laptop will not spend that much energy with unneeded a touchscreen.
