Hi, I am a biological woman. I have always had interests and personality traits that are traditionally seen as typical of men, but I am _definitely not_ a man in a female body. I'm a woman. I used to lurk on gc reddit. I signed up today because aside from my family there are only about three people (youngish wokey men) with whom I feel comfortable discussing gender critical issues, but I realized recently that they always respond in a patronizing way and treat me like I'm being hysterical over nothing, or like I'm getting dangerously close to being a bigot, and try to change the subject. It's incredibly frustrating. I think all but one of my female friends would just denounce me on the spot if they knew. I'm very kind to everyone, I dislike conflict, but I also have strong convictions, and this is all making me miserable and frightened. And I can't escape it because I'm in academia for life 😭Nice to meet you!

@BitterFleabane it’s bizzaro world for sure. One of my best friends was just like “I have thoughts about it but I don’t feel comfortable talking about that” when I asked her thoughts about TWAW, if she actually believed that as a lesbian. Because that would make her not intersectional enough. 🤨 As if there are already thought police listening in on our private offline convos who will out her for wrong think. And in academia I’m sure it’s 10x worse, you absolutely can’t say anything that goes against what is True and Right because Science. Which is really depressing, questioning and discussing different opinions used to be valued in higher education, I think.

@WeirdbutboringYes! That's exactly it, they act like we are already being listened to everywhere, and what is really creepy is that they accept it, as if that is the way it should be. They self-surveil. I hate to bring up Foucault because he's a creepy bastard and a deliberate obfuscator and someone probably already had the idea before he did, but the panopticon is now being run by OURSELVES via social media rather than by the government. The government _wishes_ it had this much power.
