Many people criticise Elon Musk for god know what but I wonder what they do for the future of hoomanity..I mean ofc SpaceX is commercial and needs to earn money to save up for a trip to Mars but at least they're doing it! :mars_photo: I have much respect and admiration for Elon, not every hooman is puurfect and that's okay but think twice before putting someone down again that's not helpful in any way.. Better come up with a better solution and show how it can be done another way

@stux Also the hate usually comes from petty things like tweets. If you take literally anyone's social media profile and have the media examine every single post looking for something to make clickbait out of, they will find many many examples. The rest of the hate is just from people who hate anyone who is successful.I don't always agree with Elon but overall I like the guy. Also respect him for coming out as an aspie on live TV. That does a lot of good for people growing up with ASD.

@stux I just criticise his privacy ethics. (At Tesla). Besides that, I like him. I wish he could find Mastodon and make a tweet about it.

@stux It is not fair to shut down criticism in that way.Wasting taxpayers money on stupid project like the tunnels, destroying nature-preserves and calling people slurs such as "pedo guy" just because he did not like the "solution" does really need to be criticized.Elon deserves to be criticized.

@stux I think he's criticised for some of the comments he's made, like he had said on :birdsite: awhile ago that "covid is basically over" when it's far from over. But yes, the technology that his companies have made is very innovative, I'll give it that!

@stux SpaceX is definitely a big deal in terms of "next steps for humanity", but the Tesla electric vehicles / solar energy story is huge for the environment & climate.Everybody wants to talk big about their Incredible Visionary EV strategy but it was only 5 years ago everyone was plugging their ears and hoping this thing would go away and it was Elon being the asshole and rubbing everyone's faces in it.

@calculsoberic @stux Well, I mean, they were blocking it. They were actively undermining electric vehicles. Painting them as toy golf carts for hippies.Tesla turned that on it's head, and that wasn't Elon's original idea, but he was the asshole who was willing to execute on it and be hated by everyone in the auto AND energy industries.

@cjd @calculsoberic @stux He was the asshole willing to execute on it who happened to be filthy stinking rich enough that they couldn’t immediately cheat him into oblivion. And he didn’t exactly get rich from his selfless generosity or love for humanity. I’m still put off by his ā€œLoopā€ scam, so I don’t trust that Tesla thing one bit. It’d be nice to have electric vehicles though. Especially if you can force those asshole scammers calling their slaves ā€œcommericalā€ truck drivers, to use electric vehicles.

@stux Someone can be a good businessman and a shit human being. Just look at Edison. Created and/or stole (that's pretty debatable as to which one he did) lots of things but was an asshole the size of California. Hollywood started because they were running from him

@calculsoberic @stux Yeah basically, so at this point they're cornered and they're all pivoting everything into EVs, but now they're just being passive-aggressive and having their PR departments dredge up old tweets from when Elon was drunk, which yeah, he tweets drunk and can be super insensitive... it is what it is.

@stux We have a ways to go before moving to Mars is like relocating from the US to Europe. In the mean time we still have to live on earth. I can give Musk a lot of credit for disrupting things (space, EVs) and getting people talking about them, but he's still only one piece of the puzzle. I support him (though I'm not sure I'd want to work for him), but he does represent his companies, and I'm not why he should be above criticism.

@stux Okay I'll just collect money from the department of justice for their private weapons delivery needs as well...cause that's what spacex is... a global weapon's delivery system. not a ticket to 'mars'. "human beings" cannot simply adapt to another planet's atmosphere that's abusrd, except as amino acid templates, and we would evolve there over the course of millions of years just like we did here. The "human beings" that are ready for further evolution just go into outer space, not an other womb planet. Womb planets are for breeding intelligent life, that life is meant to inhabit 'space'.A 'trip to mars' is a one way trip. Any planet's activity is confined to only birth and death. Immortality is contained in the DNA cell & activated in weightless space and cosmic rays.

@bat I don’t think we are aiming to ā€˜breathe’ in the Martian atmosphere haha! We would live in domes perhaps in tunnels, over a looooong period of time we could maybe terraform Mars but that takes forever. If we go prepared (launch stuff beforehand) we can stay there for about 2-2.4 Earth years and get back on a ~6 month journey. Like the astronauts on ISS, we need to keep check of our muscle and bone density ofc and keep working out if we don’t want to deteriorate over time there :)

@bat And as far as this ā€˜weapons’ thingy.. Why on earth would an ICBM for example need to land it’s booster? Such a thing destroys billions at once? Do you really think they care about a simple booster? If you think this way even the cheese producer on the corner is evil and tries to poisen everyone.. uhh.. yeahh

@stux @bat I don’t think anyone has embraced the reality that the first people to go to Mars won’t be coming back. The technology for a one way trip and settlement are much more feasible than a return journey; and many of the first settlers (like with every other new frontier) will die.The biggest tech needed would be automated mining and fabrication equipment needed to construct buildings. The first settlers would spend 80% of their days underground due to the radiation. I highly recommend Kim Stanley Robinson’s book Red Mars. It’s part of his Mars trilogy and is my favourite Sci-Fi book of all time.

@djsumdog @bat The chances are very high on dying indeed 😮 Even though I would go today :blobcatgiggle: Even dying on Mars would be okay for me, at least I got there! More would be awesome absolutely but not neccesary. I think a lot of people think about it that wayLike that dude from the tv show "Mars" that mission commander. I would also be okay with that to be honest

@stux Global weapons delivery system means guns, not icbm. The guns for the endless wars that the US military intends to keep going are going to be delivered from high orbit to any location on earth in a matter of minutes. These rockets they're shooting off in the desert for space travel are bread and circus. The cheese producer on the corner isn't a psychotic billionare, there's just not a word for 'justified & valid suspicion' that isn't para - knoia
