@mnswpr Its like one of those skills that are so complicated once you get into it that its completely beyond most normal people. I wonder if there's a /lit/ /g/ equivalent of cooking elitism

@metokurist @mnswpr The debates over the literary merit of Infinite Jest, for one. A lot of modernist literature can be writer's writer stuff because of the stagnation and death of the novel so many will go back to early 20th century as the zenith of experimentation before it became self-indulgent and pretentious clever wankery

@metokurist @mnswpr I don't think there is a /g/ equivalent. Too much hippie ethics. Some literary traditions come close if compared relative to other. Russians think Russian Literature is better then anything the wect has ever slepped through the printing press. Other than that, there isn't much that doesn't lead you to some pretentious autist.

@Xenidae @crisp @mnswpr I remember this guy had a really low key restaurant, was tiny and the front was completely gray and unassuming, the guy was just out front smoking, and giving people evil eye. Had won awards for making amazing pasta. Was in japan

@metokurist All of these cooks messing around with flavor infusion, niche pieces of technology and/or adapted scientific instruments. A lot of them do all sorts of insane nonsense and just mess around with the boundaries of this stuff to show off to the critics and their fellow chefs. There's a series on N*tflix (and probably elsewhere) called "Chef's Table" that deals with quite a lot of them. Very impressive both in terms of skill and end-product, but of questionable value as a meal.
