I apparently found two #arduino (?) boards/keypads after dumpster diving around my area this weekend. Does anyone recognize what they are / what can I do with them? Details below:https://tilde.town/~kzimmermann/updates/20210111_0558.html#dumpsterdiving #freestuff

@kzimmermann wow, I'd love to dumpdiving in your area. You could try to put together something like a dactyl keyboard, if you like split kbd

@damko thanks for the suggestion! I'm just wondering how can I connect it that way. Plugging it into the USB drive does nothing with the keypresses, should I "program" it to do so?And yes, this place I found is often chock full of stuff, with real gold sometimes. I'll put up a video about it later.

@kzimmermann check out what's the chip soldered on the boards. Maybe it's a teensy? BTW, be careful plugging in your USB port random devices: see evil maid attack on Wikipedia. There is also the chance of shortcut devices which can fry your PC motherboard

@damko yeah, I tested it elsewhere to know before if it was damaged or short-circuiting. But I really have no idea about what that chip is, I never used Arduino before (I'm more a Raspberry Pi kind of guy) :PPerhaps this is an excellent time to start haha. Also see here how this dumpster area is like https://diode.zone/videos/watch/8903556e-caa7-4426-b9de-683fa9060781

@kzimmermann if its AVR, you can use v-usb on avr to simulated a real general keyboard either linux or windows (sorry for my english)

@svrb thanks for the tip! I see there's still some stuff I have to learn about Arduino, etc before putting these to practice. Do you have any suggestions for tutorials?

@kzimmermann Nice #ortholinear #mechanicalkeyboard I wonder what kind of switches are in them, the keycaps look pretty nice too.

@kzimmermann That's a Let's Split. It's an ergonomic keyboard made so you can type with your hands wherever you want. You connect the audio jacks with a TRRS cable and then plug one micro-usb port into a PC.If it doesn't work you might have to replace the Arduino boards. They're cheap and have a habit of randomly dying. The part is called a "Pro Micro" and is a pain to desolder. You might have to flash the firmware onto it. You can find it here: https://github.com/qmk/qmk_firmware

@lorendias so do I, actually! Haven't been able to check much due to not knowing Arduino that much haha

@bkhan thanks for the explanation! I'll look for a TRRS cable to try this out. Each separate "hand" of the keyboard lights up and seems to be working fine, but I don't have the cable to connect them both. Now that you have told me the name, I know where to start looking for more information. Thanks so much!

@svrb me too. But it was pointed out elsewhere in this thread that this is a "Let's Split" Mechanical Keyboard. Apparently the previous owner built it from parts, then discarded it.

@psiie apparently, those of people that are way too consumerists, and want to keep up with the joneses way too much, with a just the right scoop of techie on top.Gotta love the Japanese.
