Good Morning Fedi! What are you doing to instantiate the Cyber-occult utopia today?https://fortune.com/2020/04/15/a-digital-ceasefire-is-unrealistic-during-the-pandemic/

@Catapult @TheGibson I'd renew my license but I can't find a real actual use for amateur radio in 2020 (assuming society doesn't collapse)

@r000t @thegibson PRACTICAL use? Not really. But reading books about how to make a radio out of vacuum tubes makes a nice break from the Software World.I'm hoping to bounce a radio signal off the ionosphere, and watch the solar cycle grow to max in a couple of years. I want to explore some of the "new" digital modes (Weak signal stuff especially). The WSPR "Weak Signal Propagation Reporting" seems like a fun thing. And I want to try my hand at making my own radio. Either kit or ground up homebrew. But that's the Joy *I* am following. The old saw about "Using ham radio to stay in contact"... Not so much. My friends are all on various places on the net, or on our cell phones. I don't see using radio to replace that.TL : DR - It's just a hobby for me. and, just like fishing, it doesn't work for everyone. matter of fact, I'd rather sit with my feet in the water and drink the beer, and leave the pole at home 😀 So I get it.
