I got a promotion in work this week, very happy indeed. One of the things I’ve always wanted since getting into the fishkeeping hobby, is an Oscar.I went to my local fish shop today to get some supplies and they had a pair of GORGEOUS fire oscars (the exact type I’ve always wanted).I had to have them, but they need a HUGE tank as they’re a foot long each. My promotion treat to myself - a new tank and the 2 oscars!Fosstodon, meet Betty and Dice. 😁

@murtezayesil it’s just the way their mouthes are. They’re actually very happy and intelligent fish.

@kev Oscars are the best cichlids to keep as pets. They're fun to watch and know when you are close to the tank.

@kev Congrats on your promotion. I used to have a huge fish habit, so much so, that I took a part time job at the local aquarium shop to support that habit. When my spouse and I hooked up, I had 14 tanks. At its height I was breeding and selling quarter sized discus. It can get away from you.

@Tayo it really can. We started with a single goldfish that we took off my sister in law because we felt sorry for it.We now have 4 tanks - one cold water (goldfish), one trop, one shrimp and now the Oscar tank too.14 is hardcore! You must have constantly been doing water changes?

@AAMfP we have a tank full of tetras, inc cardinals. My personal favourites are either the rummy nose, or bleeding heart.

@kev I don't remember doing that often. I practiced a principle of adding one fish at a time and most of my tanks were probably underpopulated. The discus breeding was constant vigilance and labor but once I had it down, very lucrative.
