Oh, another thing: I have to use a Mac for the first 6 months of my hiring. They like to do this thing where they make you get used to the OS you're /least/ familiar with to help get you used to it as the only OS limitation is being restricted to the big three. I have to be able to support all three.I'm kinda looking forward to it as I've not been able to experience the "feel" of a Mac yet and of course I've heard good things.

@jamie iTerm2 and Amphetamine will be really useful! Readkit is pretty interesting :3Not sure what Devonthink is for though. It seems basically like another file browser? But specifically for documents. Or is it more like Evernote but with your files? It's a little confusing. But no, it doesn't say that on the website :P I came up with that, it seems to me that's the best use case

@cavaliertusky For sure! I could have totally lied and said "I hate using Linux" but then I'm 1. already being dishonest and 2. being closed-minded or being pettily scared

@brandon DEVONthink is a bit like Evernote, but works with files on your own file system. My whole life is in there. And yes, you are right about uBar. Just never thought about it like that!

@brandon I don't know which of the big three I am least familiar with. Used Mac throughout my education, still have a macbook I use sometimes, used windows at all of my workplaces/at my house as a kid, and I've used linux a ton the past year.

@brandon Yeah, but I have had 2 macbooks and those were my main personal machines until i built a desktop with ubuntu last fall. I don't do much with Windows at work as I don't have a "tech" job. I have used the terminal a bit on mac and have done a lot of configureing of it, but have only used windows for pretty basic functions.

@brandon Pages is wonderful! I love the sleek feel and consistancy of mac apps, but it seems like newer versions of it are starting to mix in ios elements, which i don't like.

@brandon Emacs and Firefox. Not much else. Depends on what your tasks are. I don’t tend to install a lot of extra apps on Mac because it’s easy to get out of hand. Mac has a good set of defaults.

@brandon I had a menulet calendar I used. Can’t remember the name. If you’re willing to drop some money, Fantastical has both iOS and macOS apps that are… well, fantastic. The built in calendar is perfectly capable, though.

@ndegruchy mmm...not willing to pay that much for a calendar I'll be using for 6 months. I wouldn't even want to expense it as it doesn't really look to be doing much more than what I've seen of the built in Calendar app

@brandon Try the built in terminal. I know a lot of people shill for iTerm2, but I honestly don’t see much of a difference. Spectacle is good if you want to do window size management (open source, too). Dozer is a neat app for keeping those menulets that every damn application thinks it needs.
